Gas Prices

They keep riseing, and look like they'll never go down or pick a price to stay at.

At first i thought since the economy was makeing more money. The gas prices started to rise.

But now with the fighting and war at hand our money is becomeing more and more short and prices on gas or any necessidy are going through the roof. A depression is going to arise with all of this..

What is goin on here? I heard by 2012 gas prices will almost be at 12 a gallon.
Is gas really running out, or are the prices going high for some other reason..

I'd hate to sell my stang and buy a moped.

Not another one of these threads.......
From the looks of your post you should increase your level of education and then you could possibly make more money to offset the rising fuel prices.
If you are worried about fuel economy, get rid of your high fuel consumption car(s). It is all about supply and demand economics. Do some research and get back to us about that. It sucks, but it has nothing to do with the President. The only thing they control is the $0.40+worth of taxes they have on a gallon. Better yet, move to England or Europe and pay $7 plus for a gallon.
Take away taxes and a gallon of gas is about the same cost as a gallon of milk.
Think about the cost per gallon of those 20 oz bottled water everone buys for about a dollar.
We vote with our wallets in a capitalist market. The only thing to decrease cost is to increase supply or decrease demand. Supply is what it is, so if we conserve, prices will go down.
The interesting thing about high oil prices it it lends itself to increased exploration and production, and pumps so much money into the economy in terms of a well paid workforce and corporate taxes it isn't even funny.
My great great grandchildren probably won't see the end of fossil fuels.

January 2007, gas prices fell almost overnight! I woke up one morning and the gas staition I get gas at was 1.79 per gallon!!! That was awesome!! It then stayed aroud 179-185 for 2 weeks....then it crawled up slowly to the 2.70-2.90 range....and of course stayed like that all summer, fall, and now this winter.

It will go up and up.......they only made 11 BILLION dollars profit last quarter. That's 11 Billiion.....illion with a B!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look at it this way, the Exxon's and Chevron's of the world that are making 11 billion with a 'b' profit are paying 45% taxes on that. You think Washington is actually gonna cut spending if this fountain of "revenues" for the government dries up?? I'll let them pay billions upon billions in taxes, so I don't have to.

FWIW when I started driving 15+ years ago, gas was about 1.79 per gallon. I make a tiny bit more bank than I did @ 15, so I dunno. It hurts to go to the pump, bit it is what it is.

Should these American companies who employ many hundreds of thousands of Americans all over the world pump every barrel out of the ground subsidize it so people can afford it? The people that work out there to bring you your daily dose of fuel deserve raises as well, don't ya think?

As crazy as it is, market price for a barrel of crude is ~$100 per 42 gallon barrel. If we don't pay that for it, someone else in another country will, and we won't have it, which will further decrease supply in this country and demand staying the same, price will increase.

That sounds fun.

Wanna know how to truly beat the oil companies? Buy stock in them. A few hundred shares of exxon or chevron with their insane quarterly dividends will offset the differential in gas prices not to mention the stock appreciation as well.

Not a dig at you at all SVT. Just saying what I think.

im at 3.45 for regular and 3.69 for premium i havent seen under 3.19 in like 9 months....

The prices of gas will drop when enough alternative energy source vehicles are on the road then demand will go down.

Also since Hugo Chavez keeps threatening to cut off oil its not helping either.

Its all supply and demand as stated above.

The cheapest here is at $3.07 a gallon, the highest is at $3.49. I was just watching the news and I saw that the price for a barrel of oil hit it's highest point ever, $100.01. It's a shame that it happened, along with the Texas refinery fire, because now gas prices are going to go way up again. But it's just a cycle. Gas prices will go up, people will get rid of their gas guzzling SUV's and buy fuel efficient cars, the demand for oil goes down, prices drop, and then everyone is going back to their SUV's, demand goes up along with the price of oil...again. Also, I'm happy right now because my Stang went 230 miles on a tank, and it was all city driving! Woo hoo!!!!

I am not defending the Oil Companies but back when Oil was 10 or 15 bucks a barrel and they were making no profit the Government was not wanting to give them money. We live in a Capitalist Society and you are in business to make money, the Liberal Media makes "Any" Companies that make Big Profits out as Evil Corps. and then should be Taxes so they can be Socialists and Spread the Wealth!

Man, where did you live? I started driving in 96 and paid $.79 a gallon. I don't think I paid anywhere near $2 a gallon until around 2000 or 2001?

I still can't understand why the price of oil continues to rise though. Who exactly controls the price? The oil producing countries? Whoever it is has us eating out of the palm of their hand, and they seem to know it.

The dirty little secret about Ethanol is this, nearly the same amount of energy ethanol produces is consumed (in the form of natural gas ie fossil fuels) in the process of making it.
So you burn lots of natural gas, and release those emissions to the atmosphere, and then you burn ethanol and it releases emissions, albeit not too much. In the end I would wager that the net amount of harmful emmisions is about the same.
BUT you have consumed a very pricey fuel (natural gas) to make a cheaper, less BTU rich fuel. Make sense?? no it don't. That is why the Govt has heavily subsidized in all aspects this ethanol market. I am paying for it, but I won't use it.

I grew up in West Virginia. It continues to rise because demand continues to rise and supply is mostly flat at this point. We lose oil, we lose our way of life as sad as it is. Commodity traders buy and sell oil based on supply available, which sets the price.
It's kinda like vintage mustangs. Supply is low and demand is rising, so the prices go through the roof, because if you don't sweeten the deal to get what you want, someone else is right there to buy it, and you won't get another chance.
Oil producing countries, for the most part control the prices, as they control the supply. These oil producing countries need us as much as we need them.

Yes, gas prices are more expensive than they used to be. I don't think we really have a right to be complaining about $3 a gallon though. Like mentioned above, gas is several times more expensive in other countries, and I'm sure they're not making more money than us. I don't even look at the price really, I just slide my card and push 93 then pump till it stops. Whether the price is $.50 a gallon or $5.00 a gallon, I'm still gonna need it, and I'm still gonna buy it. Lucky for me my work is practically within walking distance of my house, so I don't use a whole lot of gas. I fill my truck up (10mpg at best) every other week. This summer I will be riding my bicycle to work a lot. When that feels too slow my street bike gets 45mpg around town beating the **** out of it. Hopefully my car will still get close to 20 if I can keep off the loud pedal.

Why should someone have to increase there level of education to be able to afford fuel. Maybe they can't afford it. Lets say if you make 70,000 dollars a year you pay 1.50 a gallon anything above that you pay 3.50 a gallon and up, that's fair right...I could care less about England and Europe and what they pay. I don't care what a gallon of milk or a bottle of water cost because that crap doesn't drive America like FUEL. Don't you think FUEL plays a major part in the economy, I do. Now the govt wants to give us some of OUR money in advance to help with the economy. I understand that we need to decrease on our demand a little, but how can the govt predict what the fuel is going to cost in 2012 and beyond. When I read this I was in shock. Right now the govt is talking about increasing the taxes on a gallon of gas. So if and when the fuel does come down you won't notice the tax increase. Pretty slick on their part huuh. You say 15+ years ago 1.79 a gallon wasn't that when the elder Bush was leaving office. I remember paying $.80 a gallon in the late 90's with Clinton in office. However, I understand that things have to go up but, when you have multiple vehicles to fill and a family to take care of, paying $3.00-3.50 a gallon can put a strain on things. Furthermore, I'll get back to watching scooby-doo and drinking Kool-aid with my boy.

I do my part by riding a bicycle or walking 95% of the time and leaving my car in the garage.
It's amazing how many cars and especially SUV's I notice are on the road when I'm not driving. So, I'm not surprised to see gas prices so high.
