To 302RollinHard,
"Why should someone have to increase there level of education to be able to afford fuel."
When someone comes out on a public forum complaining about gas prices, misspelling many words, and having sentences that make no sense, what is one supposed to think. Anyhoo--who in their right mind wouldn't want to actually make more money? That most of the time comes through education--be it academic or technical.

"......Lets say if you make 70,000 dollars a year you pay 1.50 a gallon anything above that you pay 3.50 a gallon and up, that's fair right..."
That, my friend, is a tax system. It would never fly.

"I could care less about England and Europe and what they pay."
Just pointing out that we still have some of the cheapest fuel around, nothing more.

"I don't care what a gallon of milk or a bottle of water cost because that crap doesn't drive America like FUEL."
Absolutely, you are CORRECT fuel is a big player. But when you look at the unit costs of that bottle of water while you are pumping gas and you are paying $.05 per ounce for WATER and $.03 per ounce for GASOLINE (which has to be found, drilled for, lifted out of the ground in many cases, piped to a refinery, refined into various products, piped/trucked to your gas station) doesn't that make you wonder just a teeny bit?

Don't you think FUEL plays a major part in the economy, I do.
See above statement

Now the govt wants to give us some of OUR money in advance to help with the economy.
You just wait, Cupcake, until they tax you for this wonderful gift next year, then you can thank them.

I understand that we need to decrease on our demand a little, but how can the govt predict what the fuel is going to cost in 2012 and beyond.
They can't, and anyone that says they can, well, you are safe to assume that they don't have a clue as to what they are talking about.

Right now the govt is talking about increasing the taxes on a gallon of gas. So if and when the fuel does come down you won't notice the tax increase. Pretty slick on their part huuh.
But they are on your side --remember the tax rebate you were talking about earlier? It comes from somewhere.

You say 15+ years ago 1.79 a gallon wasn't that when the elder Bush was leaving office. I remember paying $.80 a gallon in the late 90's with Clinton in office. However, I understand that things have to go up but, when you have multiple vehicles to fill and a family to take care of, paying $3.00-3.50 a gallon can put a strain on things.
Ahh the good ole Clinton years . Wasn't that also when interest rates were absolutely outrageous?
Dude I have 4 cars, 3 kids and a wife and I know what you mean, I ain't saying it don't suck, but it is what it is, and there are reasons it is that way--again, supply and demand it ain't evil oil companies and the President. I can decrease the demand for my household, and I have.

Furthermore, I'll get back to watching scooby-doo and drinking Kool-aid with my boy.
Sip slowly, it has gotten more potent these days. Better yet--mix you up a batch with some bottled water. MMMMMM Delicious.

JUST ANOTHER EXUBERANT REMARK FROM AN OVER PAID ENGINEER WHO CAN ADD FASTER THAN OTHERS. KUDOS TO YOU 302ROLLINHARD

Dude, Get your panties out of that wad. You can believe what you want to believe about gas prices--it is America. I can also believe in the Tooth Fairy and the Boogey Man if I want to, so we'll call it even.
HMMMM-How do you know I am overpaid? I use a calculator I suck at math.

Of course their profits are increasing - more and more people are buying cars and we're all consuming more and more fuel. You can't judge them by their total profit. It's only natural that larger industries will produce larger profits

What you have to consider is the net profit per dollar. I can't remember the exact numbers right now - and don't plan on looking - but Exxon makes far less profit per dollar of gas sold than a company like coca-cola and most other businesses.

The gas companies don't control the cost of oil - you can't expect them to take up all the slack just to save you $10 a month. And don't blame the president or the war either. If not for the Iraq war, the currency in which oil is bought from most middle eastern suppliers would have already been changed to the euro. - then gas prices would be much higher.

Suck it up and stop complaining unless you plan on doing something about it.

I wasn't complaining. I simply told a story of a year ago and then stated their quarterly profit.

My company pays for my gas anyways. I just feel for the people who pay out of their pocket and struggle to make ends meet. I feel fortunate to not be one of those people, so I feel bad for them. Seeing someone fill up an old junk car with 2 little kids in the back seat kinda sucks.

I do not feel bad for those who lease Escalades and Range Rovers who complain about gas prices. They can afford the 800-1000 dollar payment per month, they can afford 200-300 dollars in gas per month

Apparently gas isn't expensive enough to make anyone REALLY care.

Yep. Oil companies are making record profits. They do that by charging the highest price that the market will bear. If you want gas to be cheaper, there is a very simple solution: Stop using so much of it.

I hear people complaining about the price of fuel, but then I see a full-size pickup or SUV in over half the driveways in my neighborhood. I see people get in those trucks and drive to the end of the road, AND BACK, just to get their mail.

So stop complaining about gas prices, and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I'm not saying you need to run out and buy a Prius, or some other treehugger-approved vehicle powered by rainbows and unicorn farts. Just changing your driving habits can reduce your consumption (and therefore, cost) by 20% -- combine trips, make those trips when traffic is lighter, tread lightly on the tall pedal on the right (this is hard, I know), etc..

If you just sit on your @ss and wait for some miracle fuel to come along, you're going to be sitting a very long time. Alternative fuels are just that -- alternatives. They will not replace fossil fuels, and they are terribly inefficient to make.

Unless we quit sucking-up to the lefties and radical environmentalists, and start looking for our own oil in ANWAR and other domestic areas, we're pretty much stuck with the current situation.

Thank you!

Sometimes I just feel like walking up to those people and handing them 20 dollars or something.
