It's been predicted to do this, or more, before. It's not going to happen. The economy can't support it. Notice how everyone quit buying gas when it hit $4/gal? That's because that was the limit; the demand dropped below the supply, and prices went back down. The only thing we have to worry about is letting ourselves think that there is nothing we can do about it and accepting whatever the media feeds us about future prices.

And I'll make a prediction. If it does go way back up, the POTUS and other leaders in congress are going to have a hard time getting re-elected in two years.

Do you realize this is old news? This is already over and done with. Look at the date on the second page for starters. Nice way to feed into everyone’s "gas is going up fears"

A hike like that would have a serious problem getting approved. CA has already driven out so much business that it cannot afford to drive out anymore. Funny thing is that CA blames the housing market for all its problems but forgets that they have been driving out small business for the past 10 years. A gas hike like that would cripple this state and everyone knows it.

Gas will ALWAYS be more expensive here but I don’t see how it could get that high.

HA! Speak for yourself. If gas hits $4 or more, you better believe I'll be sittin my ass at home or walking everywhere.

We're only hurting ourselves.

I'm pro environmental conservation, but I'm not stupid enough to say we can't successfully drill and tap into our own resources to aid our country from the death grip of OPEC countries. People that tout and scream about destroying our environment and demand that we not "ruin" it with pipelines and drill stations are some of the biggest morons on the planet. I guess they're cool with sleeping at night knowing that the majority of every gas stop they make is funneling money into the hands of countries who have NO interest in our well being, would like to overpower us, and are only on good terms with us because we keep them afloat with mass amounts of fuel money.

We unfortunately don't have the reserves that many of the middle-eastern countries that we rely on do, or other places around the world, but it for damn sure WOULD help us to utilize what we have. That's like having every tool in the shed and not using them because you don't want to risk hammering your thumb.

So while the majority of the country blindly follows the "norm", all of us will suffer as a result and see our slice of "freedom" get thinner and thinner over the years. I personally will not go buy an eco-car just to save a few bucks on gas. You'd have to almost pay me to jump in a soda can on wheels that offers zero driving pleasure and is going to have just as much as environmental impact as any other vehicle due to the refinement, production, disposal, and replacement of batteries and whatnot.

Do I want to see $5 a gallon? Hell no. And yes, I'll bitch about it... but I'm not going to tuck my tail between my legs and compromise MY lifestyle because of the world's problems. Our country is become less and less American everyday and we're just on the sinking ship. Some of us realize it, some don't.

We have been fortunate up to this point to enjoy some very low fuel costs, comparatively, looking an European countries, Australia, etc. Of course, 3rd world countries that are fuel producers have $.25 gas, but would you really accept living in an s-hole country to have a lower cost of living? Not me.

yes it's a bit old, but that doesn't mean it's not going to happen....in-fact some news sources are reporting that because Prop 23 lost big, CARB is accelerating their plans for new "fees" on gas...

and CARB isn't a legislative body, they don't have to get anything "approved", all they have to do is write the regulation and we have to live with it...and do really think the fear of more business leaving will have any effect on the people making these descions? it never has in the past...

I'll tell you like I tell everyone else: I don't give a damn about what gas costs, I will always enjoy my gas guzzling 68 Coupe. Call me a sheeple or whatever. I just know that I will save gas in other cars, or money somewhere else. These *******s will never take away from me what I truly enjoy. I will ride a damn bike or a horse (we have a couple!) every where else that I don't drive my 68.

It's worth every penny. After a ****ty day at work all I have to do is get in it and get lost on some old lonely farm to market back roads, and I have no worries. Great stress relief.

5 bucks a gallon is still cheaper, and not to mention 100 x more fun than a damn therapist!
