Okay i basically want to refinish the plastic gas tank cover on my car. I don't want to just paint it because It will probably flake off too easily. Would something like interior panel dye work on it? If so what's a good kind to get?

I painted mine with some flat black Dupli color. It hasn't flaked yet. I also spray it with tire shine to keep it nice looking. Paint the straps silver.

Try the Krylon Fusion satin black paint. The Fusion paint is made for plastics it should hold up well.

I sanded mine down to get it smooth and then used filler primer and wet sanded it to make it like glass.

Then I painted it gloss black.

Here it is installed over a new gas tank... turned out pretty good I think.

+1 Krylon Fusion FTW! I have used this stuff before, the plastic parts I did on my other car have lasted for over 3yrs now w/o any flaking, great stuff .

I like the Glens covers too. That might be an option rather than spending hours sanding and priming on my stocker. Thanks for the pic Blown 5.0
