Working on my brothers 66 coupe and the frame around the gas tank is rusted pretty good and should probably be replace with some angle iron. What/how do you guys normally drain the gas tank of unused gas? I don't know how much is in there and I'd hate to open the drain plug and have 10 gallons spill out into a 5 gallon bucket. WHat do you guys do? WHat do you do with the old gas?
Thanks!
Geoff

I had a drain plug on mine. I poured the old gas into my Chevy Pickup. I just made sure it had more than 3/4 of good gas in the tank. It mixed and burned fine. I used a painters funnel to catch the small particles of junk. Oh yeah, don't do this in the garage and be very careful of any potential sparks.

When i drained mine i opened the drain pulg but did not remove it compleatly when the can was full i closed the plug and switched cans it was a little slower but gave me the option of swapping cans

I found it's very easy to put the plug back in mid stream. It's not coming out like fire hose. I happened to be draining water out of the tank at the time(s) and just stuck the plug back in when the water turned to that precious fluid that we all so crave. Use a bucket then transfer to a gas can.

I recently changed the tank out on my '65 and I went down to Home Depot and bought a 15 gal plastic container. Ya know, the type that has a lid to store stuff in. Well I just drained it into that and then poured it into smaller 5 gal gas cans. Worked great!

can you dump it somewhere? donate it? I know my stangs tank is shot and there is no way you would catch me putting gas with rust and other sediments into a brand new car/engine no matter how many times i tried to strain it. If someone wants old gas from a rusty tank PM me and I will let you come get it for free!

if the gas is clean and not too old then i would throw it in another veh...preferably something old that is used to having bad gas run through it.

however if the gas is old and crusty.... it works great for killing weeds, blackberrys, neighborhood strays, firestarter(aka boyscout in a bottle)... but usually the "man" frowns upon most of my recycling methods... so do it at your own risk
