Gator belt?

Ok needed a new belt so I went to GoodYear and picked up the Gatorback belt 4060935 6PK2375. Is it difficult to install?

As long as you have 2 people and the tensioner tool its easy as pie. It can be done with 1 person but it is way easier to have someone hold the tensioner open while you put the belt on.

I don't have a tensioner tool.

I can't speak for a 2001 but for my 98, I had a difficult time getting it on. However, my problem was that it kept getting caught on the lower pulleys (crankshaft, etc.) and I wasn't noticing. I mean, it was twisting, know what I'm sayin? So just make sure that's not happening. I know it sounds kinda stupid and thats how I felt after I almost gave up because it was making me so mad ... then I saw it twisted at the bottom.

A 3 foot breaker bar with 3/8" drive is perfect you can move the tensioner over with one finger

I did it myself, does not really seem like a two person job to me

I usually snake the belt over all of the pullies (including the tensioner) except the alternator (#1 in the diagram). The I put my 3/8" extension/breaker bar on the tensioner and relieve the tension with one hand while pulling the belt over the alternator pulley with the other. 10 minute job....tops

EXACTLY how I used to do it on my GT.......

yup do the alt last, you should be able to swap the belt in no time at all.

Just remember, ribbed goes to ribbed and smooth goes to...well smooth!

Hey guys im changing my serp now and why the heck does it seem like it wont go on. i have the gatorback and it seems short, same part # as shown. Whats the trick, removed the tensioner to get the belt off, followed the directions to putting the new one on, and did the alt last why why wont it go on. is there something im missing.

A mistake I've made on many a belt....make sure that it is completely seated on the bottom pullies. It can easily move over on ya while you're try getting it on the other pullies and end up sitting on the edge of one instead of in the grooves.

yeah i know ive moved it on all the pullies and what not and it is seated correctly. i even tried putting my old one back on but its still not enough room. but it doesnt really maek sense to me, if i do the alt last i still need to get it over the tensioner, and if i put it over the tensioner theres still not enough room for the belt around the alt.

Are you putting tension on the tensioner (same thing you had to do to get the belt off)?
