I'm thinking about getting the 2-Gauge Cowl Grille for my car. Holds two 2 5/8" gauges.

Question is, would you all recommend getting mechanical guages instead of the electrical gauges? I already had an Electrical Oil Pressure gauge fail resulting in a near stroke driving down the highway. So, the two gauges would be for Oil Pressure and Fuel Pressure. My understanding is that mechanical gauges are much more accurate as well. But of course, if I went electrical, they would be mounted inside the car.

Also, what about Speedo's? Should I get a mechanical speedo and try to hook it up using the right gears and cables, or get an Electical and try and set it up with the "halls effect" sender (not sure how to dial in the speedo correctly?)? All I want to know is if i'm going 60mph or not driving down the road. The mechanical speedo is $80, the electronic speedo is $250. Would it be worth the money????

it says latemodelrestoration.com in the background of the pics, so thats probably a good place to start looking for those cowl covers.

as far as speedo is concerned, stick with a cable-operated unit. you can get an adaptor to use the stock cable with an aftermarket gauge, so it'll be easy as pie to install.

i take it you are making a completely aftermarket cluster?

Yes..... i'll be removing the 140mph speedo instrument cluster and making a complete AutoMeter cluster out of an aluminum plate. All i'm going to have is a 120mph speedo, 10,000 rpm tach, fuel level, and voltmeter in the cluster. Two gauges outside, and two gauges in the A/C Vents.
