I currenly have 3:73 gears in my 4R75W GT, would it be worth it to go 4:10's? Will I notice a big difference? Mods listed in sig

Not without tires. Currently, you are in the 2.0+ 60ft range. You need a stall and/or sticky tires.

those are on my list, lol

the reason I ask, is I can get the gears done for around 200-300 bucks, cause my buddy wants to buy my old ones, so he's paying for half the new ones, and Maddox has a hookup on the install

lol

I know Maddox has the hookup, and if somebody is willing to buy used gears, than I would do it. But you really need to get that car to hook/launch/shift hard to get that ET down. Make sure the tires and stall/custom tune is your next mod.

You won't gain any real ET with 4.10's, especially at HMP with your setup until you get a tire. Maddox has had a hookup on the gears for a long time, but that stall and tire is your most important ET mod.

What RPM are you crossing the 1/8 traps in 3rd gear? What do you want the car to do, 1/8 or 1/4? That tune and your shift points is going to matter a lot on your ET's.

I know you are running on those street tires, 4.10's are just going to hurt your 60ft foot. They won't help it unless you have the tire.

I ran 8.82 with an NPI GT(PI intake) in my 5 speed with stock 2.73 gears, but the tires were the key. Tires are the most important thing at the track.

You make some good points and thats because you know what you're talking about , I am gonna invest in a set of DR's here pretty soon, I don't know about the RPM's, i wasnt paying attn. lol

you'll love them. you'll also notice the different in power to the ground when your doing highway rolls.. not just dig racing. Winters does have a good point, there is no reason to add that kind of gearing unless you can get it to stick... otherwise your just going to spin. Some good DRs and a few other suspension mods would be a great idea to accompany the gears. Drag springs, upper and lower control arms etc...

edit, if you plan on supercharging the car, stay with the 3.73... that insta-torque and 4.10s will be hell from a dig unless you can get it to stick. Plan on spending a lot in suspension. If you plan on going turbo in the future... go lower, like low 3.xx range. (3.55, 3.27's...) If you plan on staying n/a..... rock the 4.10s... just remember everything winters said.

With 4.10's and street tires (no traction), I was tapping out 3rd gear crossing the 1/8th.

I would go for it. Add a line lock and a decent DR. You'll be good to go.

I say to go for the gear swap as your friend is going to cover some of the cost. 4.10s, the stall (its only a few hundred bucks and will be your best bang for the buck) and possibly a shift kit or jmod. You will be set as far as the transmission goes. We'll slap a trans cooler on top of that.

I know this all adds up moneywise Kyle, but I really do think you are being pointed in the right direction. You have seen how expensive it can get to just get a few horsepower here and there with exhaust and tb/plenum/intake mods. Those small mods add up in price quickly and really don't get you very far compared to the drivetrain work

No matter what direction you plan on going, a good set of gears will always help along with good tires. For instance if you plan on going FI later on, your intake may not work and may be wasted money but you gears will still work great.

For a little more then $300 you can get a set of nitto DR. I would honestly do that. I did gear before tire and cut wonderful 2.4 60'.

I have a 98gt with stock gears and i rode in this car with 4.10's, it is a huge differance. the car feels alot more powerfull from 0-60.

Going from 3.73's to 4.10's is a big waste of money.
You would benefit more from some suspension modifications
and a nice set of sticky tires.Practicing on your 60' foot will
also improve your times.

Well I had both 3.73's and 4.10's the different between the
two performance wise is miniscule so,I would say no it's not
worth it.

Piggybacking on this thread....

I was looking at getting gears put in sometime early next month. Right now i have the stock ones, in my daily driver automatic.

I was looking at 4.10's but as i sit about half the time in traffic, the other half is on the freeway, would it be better for me to go 3.90 or 3.8_ ?

You need some better tires, especially if you car is stock.
