I want to put in a set of 3:55 gears. The loacal performance shop, who does very quality work, quoted me about $800 parts and labor for the swap. Is this worth the price to hire out, or is the a weekend driveway job that I could knock out? What are the challenges, if any, to doing the job myself.

Setting up a third member is tough stuff if you have never done it before. I paid $800 for my fully assembled 3rd member with new 4.11 gear, new trak lok, and a steel something or other....but I had to install it myself.

Well, my time is worth more to me than money, so it sounds like they'll be doing it.

When it comes to my daily drivers I always factor my standard hourly rate into items....so I get a lot of work done for me that way...but with my mustang....its my 'hobby' car so the time spent working on is fun for me and not work :)
