Gear or tranny noise with new shifter

Hey guys,

I did a search, but didn't really find what I was looking for. Ever since I installed my B&M shifter, I'm getting quite a bit more gear and tranny noise from the console area. I assume it's just from the new shifter not having as much isolation material as the stocker.

Is there anything I can do to make it quiet again? I thought about putting dynamat down there, but I don't know if that would help, since Dynamat is mainly used for getting rid of vibration.

Anyone got a quick fix?

Dynamat is used for sound insulation. Dynamat around the whole area and than buy a piece of Dynamat insulation pad and cut it to fit.

get used to it, I have MGW and dynamated the hell out of it and still have some. I just cut a big piece of foam to put around the shifter to help absorb some. I dont know how the B&M mounts but your going to get it with stiffer mounts on most short throws.

I've used Plasti-Dip in the past to deal with this problem with good results. It's a plastic coating that comes in liquid form but hardens to the consistency of plastic/vinyl after it dries. You can get it from Lowes or Home Depot. It's generally used for coating tool handles but when I had a B&M shifter in my old Z28 I used it on the shifter handle and it worked great at getting rid of some of the resonance and whine.

You're getting the noise because of the stiffer isolator in the aftermarket shifter. Make sure all the bolts are torqued properly and yes add more insulation

Unfortunately, this is pretty hard to do with the B&M shifter. All the instructions tell you to do, is to tighten the nuts until the rubber isolators get compressed about 1/8". Well those rubber pieces are between the bottom plate of the shifter and the underside of the car, so you can't see them at all to try and gauge how much you've compressed them.
