Ok I bought some 3.55 off Ebay, but they have a 3 small chips on a couple of the teeth. Will this will have affect on the life of the gearing or how it will perform? Does anyone have instruction on a gear swap? I would like to do this weekend but am not sure about the chipped gears or how hard the installation will be?

Can't say for certain that the chipped teeth won't be a problem but I don't think that it will. As for installing it yourself: I doubt that you have the tools and dial indicators necessary to do the swap yourself. There's quite a proceedure involved that includes a step by step process of installing, measuring, rotating, measuring some more, rotating the other directions, measuring some more, then checking proper mesh and backlash. Not a project for a solo first timer. I even bought a video once to help me with the process. After watching the video I took my new gears to a shop that knew what they were doing (if that gives you any indication at all). It's not as simple as replacing a part.

man with gears i would of just gone and bought a new set from summit. A set of fordracing gears are exactly the same size as stock gears. So with the setup you can use the Master housing dimensions and installing isnt that hard at all. How much did you pay anyway for these gears?

Did you know they were chipped before you bought them? I hope you got them cheap?

Paid $50 for them and I didnt know that they were chipped. I have had them for a few months and probably put this one Ebay purchase behind me. It sounds a little more involved to install than I thought... I will probably buy a new ford racing set and have it professionally done. Anyone know the going cost for gear replacement? Ford wanted 750.00. No way would I pay that...

Where are the chips? On the ring or the pinion? If they're on the big end of the pinion, you're fine...that area hardly touches the ring gear, if at all.
