Got my FRPP 3.73's installed yesterday and they have a slight whine. FWIW, I got them from a local guy who never had any problems with them...

Is the whine just an annoying sound or is my rear in danger?

Well gears are not supposed to whine. Now I don't know if you ever heard them in the guys car or not.

I would not drive the car like that. then again I would just jack it up, pull the cover, cheack the backlash and wear patter. this should take no longer than 30min to do. aslo verify the ring gear run out. there is only supposed to be something like .004" of runout. if everthing is setup correctly there just should be no noise.

you may also want to verify the preload.

i have 3.73's and i get a little whine in 5th gear around 70mph. had the gears in the car for a little over 3 years and they have whined since the day i had them put in. the guy who put them in told me that i would notice a whine coming from the rear and that it was normal. unless the noise is so bad i would get it checked but if its only noticeable like mine is i wouldnt worry about it but if you feel the need to get it checked do it. just giving my 2 cents.

My car is doing the same thing. However, I can't tell if the gears or the tranny snycro's. I also had the TSB done around the same time the gears was installed. I'm thinking about having mine rechecked. I have around 4000 miles on my gears. Anybody have any ideas about this? Pearl02.

Gears are nor supposed to whine at any speed If installed correctly!!!
If you hear whine, the back lash or preload is messed up, If you put the gears n wrong the first time and they mesh wrong and whine, and you continue to drive it, the gears will wear wrong, and you may never get the whine to go away, unless you buy a new gear set.
