Hey there- I'm working on swapping an 8.8" rear into my '85 5.0. I have a mostly stock motor (slight compression bump, probably going ~.030 over, Comp Magnum cams, etc.), and am looking into what gears to put into it.\
My car is a DAILY DRIVER, and I do lots of highway miles, so tall gearing is a must. The 8.8" has Ford Racing 3.73's in it now, and these are WAY too short for my taste- I'm thinking 3.08->3.27- whaddya think? :)
Also, what's a good (read: cheap! :)) place to purchase said gears, and what all do I need to install them? Thanks! Mark W.

Even though you dont like the 3.73 that would have been my first suggestion. I had them and I thought they were great. You can still fly on the highway with them in. I have also had 3.08. They dont have any power to them but for the highway they are also excellent.

Yeah- the 3.73's are too short for me- for now (I bought the car with it), the car is catless, resonatorless, and has 2 Flowmasters that I'm positive make the car LOUDER, so even at 2,250ish on the highway with the 2.73's, the drone numbs you and puts you to sleep. With the 3.73's, it's a migraine! I'm looking for a good compromise- Mark W.
