Yeah that is what I figured but just the labor for the install is $400 so I was thinking if I can save that $400 I can get other parts.

Striped5.0 said:do you have a bearing press?
MadHandle8169 said:Nope! I'm guessing I need that to do the install and it is probably expensive too.
GRGT1994 said:You might be a little off there. The proper spec for the pinion pre-load torque is 16 to 29 inch pounds if you are using a new crush sleeve. Your 140 foot pounds equates to 1,680 inch pounds. So you would exceed the proper spec by at least 1651 inch pounds (or 137.583333 foot pounds, since you seem to prefer that unit of measurement).
At the proper spec, your 18 inch biceps would work just fine with any inch pound torque wrench.

they have everything and the mechanics help you out for free when you hit a wall on somethin your doin if your nice to themThanks for the comment Kevin. That is exactly why I am doing my own gears.BlueOvalStangGT said:Well I took mine to the shop 3 times and so far every time they whine. They are telling me im making too much power for these gears and i need a hardened gear. Pretty much everytime I have brought my car to a shop sometihng gets ****ed up or something breaks so I have pretty much resorted to doing everything myself. Once I get tired of the whine(which isnt that bad this time) i plan on re-inswtalling gears/axles/ locker mywself in my garage/ parking lot if im in college.
Or take your pinion to any shop. $15 bucks and you're out the door.Striped5.0 said:well if you dont have a press then you need to find someone that can do it if you plan on doing it yourself.
Jack's95gt said:. It truely takes about 140 foot pounds of force to crush the collar. Anyone who has installed gears experience this.
That part sucked I hated doing thatMadHandle8169 said:O yeah I have like jacks and stands but that's not that high of a lift. So maybe I should just pay it and get it over with. The shop I'm going to is a very reputable mustang shop on the east coast and I was told that there is a warranty on the install.
