I don't know about shops in Texas but I paid $139 for my gears (Gene Evans ford in ga) and $200 for the install. I have had 3.73's and I now have 4.10's. If I were to do it all over again I would go 3.73's. Alot of people will say 4.10's and nothing less but for me I don't really care for the 4.10's. You have to shift quickly all the time if you want halfway decent gas milage. The main gears I use is 1st 3rd then 5th. 5th gear at 45 miles per hour is around 1,500 to 1,600 rpms I can't really tell because I have the Mach 1 gauge cluster. If you don't care about gas and are set on solid straight line accel then go for 4.10's. If you want a little go and not have to shift like a madman go 3.73's. 93 octane and 220 miles per tank I am not digging the 4.10's. I have been drinking quite a but of crown and coke so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I would still do 3.73's!!!!!!

That's what I'm wondering. I have my 4.10's in the corner of my office...waiting to have someone else install them, but since I hate to let others touch my car I'm thinking about doing it myself. I have the friction modifier and the level 3 complete install kit, the factory service manual and I'm current on my Mitchell On-Demand DVD software... I change GM heads, foreign FWD clutch jobs, "6-10 hour book time" Heater cores , complete Corvette and Cadillac tilt and telescopic steering column overhauls...etc...etc, but still I'm "afraid" to mess with the gears for some reason. Don't know why. Being a "Ford" part, I can't really see much trouble. It would be nice to have the exact special tools to dial in the exact clearance, but I wonder how many mechanics just count "shims", spacers and just smear some grease on the ring gear and rotate it enough to check how the "pattern" meshes with the pinion?

Has anyone here ever done a gear change their self without someone elses help?
