General Exclaim UHP Tires: Opinions?

I need a new set of summer tires and these are rated really high on Tirerack.

They are really cheap...$81 per. Anybody have experience with these?

I got a set of snow tires for winter. When I took my regular tires off, I noticed they were about shot. They are Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S with about 35K on them.

So, I'm looking for something a little more aggressive for next year.

I'd love to get a set of Eagle F1 GS-D3 or BFG KDW2, but they are pricey.

I have them. Probably about 1000 miles so far. I read the Tire Rack ratings and since I drive my GT occassionally, I didn't feel I needed a super high performance tire. They are too $$$$.
Its a nice quiet tire for sure, I have not tested its handling abilities, but I don't do that often anyway.

they are round black and made of rubber. other than that i wouldnt recommend them. personally only stick to major brands. i have actually only bought Michelin Pilot Sport series tires on any car ive owned.

Wow, I was looking for a tire to hold me over till my wheel change. $81 a pop? Wow. Are they worth anything at all?

My dads stang has them (up front), and they are great tires...quiet and seem to handle good. Thats what im getting when my stock tires wear out....

if i sound liek a dick sayin this im sorry, but general IS a major brand, wtih some VERY good tires. if you are only buying michelin's, then you are overpaying for every tire you have ever had. there are tires taht outperform michelins that are cheaper.

i knwo its not the same tire, but i had grabber UHP's on my jeep in 235/60R16 and they were AWESOME tires. i have driven a few cars with generals, and they are decently quiet, good treadlife, and GREAT traction. i paid liek, $73 a piece for my generals, and i woudl have payed more because they are a very good tire

I tend to agree...my Dad had Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on his 2000 Mustang GT Conv. I drove it a few times so I was able to compare with my Pirellis...didn't think the Michelins were worth $85 more per tire.

Just me, but I don't cheap skate any more for tires or brakes... But ok, if you need experiences... Try these on for size. You get what you pay for.

Cougar:

Sumitomo HTR II Tires: $58/each.
-Decent traction, had sidewall blow out on interstate

Kumho ECSTA Supra 712: $89/each
-Excellent traction, no issues other than treadwear

Mustang:

BFGoodrich KDW: $145/each
-Good traction, no issues other than hydroplaning when they became worn a little

BFGoodrich KDW2: $175/each & $195/each
-Excellent traction, no issues

How long you had the KDW2s? How come you didn't get Michelins?

My stock Gatorbacks cost more per tire than any of those (including my Pirellis) and they sucked, so I think you have to take into account more than just the price tag.

i have sumitomos, adn the only reason i have them is because i didnt have a lot of cash, and needed a pair of tires to get me by.

understood. general is owned by continental, which is a highly respected german brand.

when i went to go have thanksgiving dinner at my aunt/uncle's place in Simi Valley, my uncle had just put a set of hte General Exclaim's on his SVT Focus. he was very pleased with them.

im thinking that when the current tires i have wear out, probably another 15k miles i am gonna turn these wheels into track wheels and put Pilot Sport Cups on them. for street wheels i am strongly considering getting a set of SSR GT3's 18x9 front and 18x10.5 rear with Michelin PS2s. one of my coworkers has the PS2s on his 04 M3 and loves them a lot. plus i can get the PS2s in N2 sizes which means the quality is even higher on them. N2=Porsche Factory Approved.

i have Generals up front,no complains here...only thing is that they fit a little tight on my 17x9s,hehe

What I find funny is that when asked, most people(myself included) don't push their GT's anywhere near the tires capability. I don't need NITTOS, since I don't drag race, nor do I need the ultimate high performance tires that almost give you the ability to climb pine trees.
For the money the General tire does exactly what most people want, to go round and round on the car and to provide decent traction at a good price.
That is all.

A few weeks now. I probably have about 10k miles on them by now. Gatorbacks did suck, I agree. They're overpriced anyway. I did look at Michelins but I didn't like the tire rack comparison charts when I saw them. My Dad was all about Michelins on his SUV though. I would consider buying Michelin.

does the general uhps run narrower or wider compared to like goodyear and kuhmo and bfg??

i had them on my mustang when i got it. overall theyre a pretty decent tire, hell i was cutting 1.9xx 60fts on them at the track. i have the general altimax hp right now no complaints with them either
