I bought my 94 mustang with 11,000mi 2.5 years ago, the only general maintenace I have done are oil changes, coolant change, K&N air filter. I now have 34,000mi on it and was wondering if there is anything else I should do for general maintenace? Spark plugs, wires, or anything else? Everything is stock and original at this point. Thanks. -j

I would go ahead and change the spark plugs, cap and rotor, fuel filter, and change the tranny fluid. I would also check vacuum lines because with age/heat they seem to waste away.

New spark plugs, wires, a distributor cap, and rotor are always a good idea, especially if they are 10 years old. If it ain't broken, don't fix it. Often times, people will just replace random parts just because they assume they are "old." Don't.

you could also check little things like the belt and hoses. Like Joe said If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Yeah except the tranny.... check that out. I bought an 85 S-10 4x4 Blazer for a winter vehicle. 65,000 original miles (was stored for a long time, but then driven about 4,000 of those right before I bought it.) It made it 1 month and 2 gear went bye, bye. Not sure what I could have done to help it, but I should have dropped the tranny pan and didn't.

Get the brake fluid changed every two years and the power steering fluid flushed/filled every 12 months.

Every 6,000 miles I get my tires rotated and have them re-balanced. Check the alignment when needed.

thanks guys. new spark plugs, wires, a distributor cap, and rotor will be at the top of my list. are these things that someone with VERY little auto experience can do? how about the transmission, brake and power steering fluid change? i guess i should have ford do that.

You could probably get away with switching to synthetic oil. On high mileage engines it can cause leaks. At least in my experience.
