ok its going to the shop this week... i'm getting a new crossmember installed... is it common for them to become rusted out? my clutch plates in the rear diff. are also slipping... i need some estimate prices so i dont' get ripped off. Also, did the 87 stangs come with a rear defroster? and what is the switch underneath my main headlight switch? it looks like it could be fog lights but nothing happens when i press it forward...:(

it's been awhile since i was in a 87 up car, but i think it's just a blank switch that would be fog lights if it were a gt,

it is a 87 so a rusted crossmember is not a big deal, it's a easy fix

it shoud have a rear defroster i think

as far as the rear goes if it's going bad i'd take this time to install a good set of gears

yeah i was gonna put some 3.55's in it... but i really wanted to get the car running good before i started modding it ya know? so is a rusted crossmember common??? where would the rear defroster be? the clutch plates are only 45 bucks but how much would labor be? any estimates so i don't get ripped off? same with the crossmember... 67 dollar part but dunno about labor. is it a bad idea to fix the clutch plates and put in gears at a later point in the future?

If you ever add foglights, the foglight wiring should all be in your car. You get a fog light switch and add lights and you're good (you'll likely find the pigtails inside the dash and under the bumper).

The rear defroster is the set of horizontal lines in the rear window.

It makes sense to do the Trac Lok rebuild when you do the gears.

Swapping in a new crossmember would be fairly easy. I'd get some new crossmember bushings (ES makes poly versions for about 15 bucks IIRC).

Good luck.
