Well when i bought my mustang there was a half tint job done to the drivers window, and i got that with alot of elbow grease and a razor blade, but i have the back hatch window and passenger side left to do, and really don't want to go through that again. I was wondering if anyone knew a quick and easy way to get that old tint off. Its the tint stuff that you buy at autozone too if you need to know that.

You probably want to spray down the inside of the windows with windex, or any other cleaner with ammonia. Then just use a razor and keep your cool, cause it will probably take a long time...Good luck man.

well i was looking through surpluscomputers.com, and i found a heat gun, and under the description it says removing decals. So i was thinking since a decal and the window tint is basically the same would it work. heres the link http://master.mx-targeting.com/mx/servlet/MXTarget?adcontext=http://www.softwareandstuff.com/TOL10255.html&contextpeak=0&contextcount=0&countrycodein=US&lastAdTime=1096497553|0|1096496920|0|1096494838|0|0|0|0|&lastAdCode=1&cookie1=capdate%3D2918%26capdatedy%3D0929%26lupgtry%3D1%26lupgid%3D153%26lupgdt%3D1096494838369%26lflshdt%3D1096494838%26lstlogdt%3D20040929%26cntp%3Dcable%26capcn

I really don't want to go through it with just a razor blade again.

hey ricer-roni......i have done this a million times.....use a razor blade to take off the old tint......then use brillo and water in circular motion(will not scratch window). make sure to catch the bottom of the window along with all edges. When your done getting as much off as possible use glass cleaner to clean the glue crap off the window.....i hope i have helped i have used this method on a lot of cars (it works)

thats basically what i did with the drivers side window, but the one i was worried about was the rear hatch glass. I don't want to go in there with a razor to all the wires that run across the glass for the defrost.

OK hopefully I am not to late. The first thing you need to do is peel of the window tint off by hand. Now you have just the glue. Park the car in the shade so the window does not get hot. Get your self one or two of those soft scrub spunges the ones that have the green side to them. (made by 3m) Now you want to fill a spray bottle with water and a small amount of joy dish detgergent so its soapy when you spray it. Spray the window the soap then place a peice of plastic over the soapy window let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes. This will lossing the glue. Then take the spunge and wipe the glue off with the green side of the spunge. I was a installer for 2 years that is the best way to remove old tint.

I would not use a heat gun on the window because if you heat the window up in one spot there is a chance you will crack the window. and dont use the rasor on tthe rear defrost unless it no longer works.

Hope this helps.

so how do you get old tint off the rear window if it's just gonna cause damage? The guy who did mine did a half-ass job and now I want it off and re-done.

Go to a tint shop and offer them a certain amount to remove the old and install the new. It's NOT going to be cheap. Around here, it would cost you about $275-300.

well i don't want mine redone, just off. 69 Capecod thanks for the tip, i was about to take a razor to the rear defrost, but i do use it alot. Going to try this today. The only problem i can see is that the tint dosen't like to come off by hand for the most part.
