Has anyone gotten rid of the egr tube which comes from the drivers side exhaust manifold. I was told you could cap the exhaust hole off and make a plate to block the top off. Will this hurt anything like horsepower or gas mileage etc.. Have i been misinformed or is this true. :SNSign: O its a 98 gt

you can remove the tube. there is a brass cap you can buy from Lowes for about $5. as far as the vac lines, you can just cap them off or trace them back and remove them from the main vac line.

my vac system is only for the heat and AC controls, rail pressure sensor, BOV, and boost gauge.

you will need to have your EGR turned off in your tune

it SHOULD be throwing a code for insufficent EGR flow

The EGR actually helps gas mileage. It allows exhaust flow at light loads. The addition of exhaust gasses makes the mixture more knock resistant and allows for more spark timing, and of course reduces NOX emissions. I would agree, have the EGR turned off inside the computer if you are going to run without one.

I took the egr tube off and had it tuned for no egr and it doesn't get much worse mileage if any. But it gets rid of some of the clutter under the hood anyway.

Then you should be seeing a CEL with the code "EGR flow insufficient"... computer can open the EGR and determine whether anything is flowing through it or not by both watching O2 reading as well as engine RPM change...

If you have a tuner you can turn off your CEL through that.

If the cause of his CEL light is the O2 sensors then yes, he would be running an open loop and running rich.
