I finally got out into the garage for something besides getting into my Taurus.

Did a bit of cleaning and sorting, still have a long ways to go. Need more shelving, but wife still isn't working so I have no money to spend at all. But I got most of the interior stuff onto one shelf at least.

I also got the trunk cleaned out. Found more rust. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. A couple of holes in the spare tire well. I need to check it out more to see if that is it or if the well is about to fall off.
Took the trunk latch assy off as well. Now I don't have to worry about working in the trunk area and getting locked in. Course, I don't think the lid will shut if I am in there anyway.
I also took the trunk gasket off. It came off easily in one piece. I think it is re-usable if needed. One advantage to not being back in Phoenix I guess. Rubber stuff lasts a long time here. But then the metal rusts, so it isn't a fair trade in my opinion.

Took the tail lights out finally, been wanting to do that for quite a while. I plan on doing the all red conversion. I have one spare tail light already that came with the car. Again, going to have to wait on buying another. But I can do one side. I sort of build model car kits, (when I have the energy), so I think that I should be able to handle this ok. The gaskets came off with the housing in one piece and look reasonably ok. Somehow I have a feeling that getting replacement gaskets will be a problem if I have to.

I think getting the gas tank off is the next project. I had wanted to get started on it already, but just didn't feel like crawling around on the floor yet. Got an oil spot from when the Pinto was parked in there that I need to clean up first. I took the gas cap off to look at the gasket on it, thinking about using it on the Pinto for now. Anyway, I don't think that the tank was emptied when the car was parked. There was a really strong smell coming out of the filler tube. Varnishy or something. Oh joy. The car has been sitting since at least 2000. At least I am not in a hurry to get the tank ready right away.

Oh, yeah. About the rusted floors/subframe. I am ignoring it for now. Once I get the car completely stripped and up on jack stands I will take a good hard look at it and see if the floors I bought will take care of most of it. Also, the tops of the fender aprons (at least) will need replaced, but that is something that I can handle fairly easily. So I won't worry about that at all for now. I tend to enjoy taking stuff apart, so I am just going to enjoy that while I have no money to spend on repairs.

I too am looking at the garage thinking how its time to clean out the winter jetsam.

You know how it is, have to do/ work on something when it 20 deg f out, get done working on something, look at clean up and think BS, clean up can wait till spring.

Well, Its Here!!

Tools on the bench, swept up piles on the floor, old parts stacked, welder and torch not stowed .... but thats not the real problem.

Real problem is the 'stuff' Wife stowed during the winter. THATS whats in the way. All the clutter is Wifes fault ... Yeah, thats the ticket!

I was thinking about blaming my wife for letting me buy the floor pans that are cluttering the place up a bit, but had second thoughts about it.

I can't blame my wife. I won't let her put a single thing in MY garage. And it really pisses her off, too, but that was the agreement when we bought the house six years ago. MY garage. MY four cars in there. MY tools, MY toys. Her car sits outside. She has a small garden shed to put her junk in.

Hey, it's my passion, and she doesn't share it. She's pretty understanding about it, actually. Unless she's grumbling about the lack of storage space at our house. Not that I have any room in the garage to actually store anything else anyway...
