Just got home...had a bunch of crap on my car fixed after the alt. died and left me stranded
New Alternator-old one seized up. Anyone know if degreaser is detrimental to alternators? It was rebuilt only a year ago.
New MSD billet distributor-Yes i know many people here say oem distributors are better, but someone how the guy talked me into one. I had this replaced because my Stator was crapping out on me.
Harmonic balancer- it was spun, and in turn, the mechanic said it had worn the crank bearing causing it to leak oil.
Had the cooling system, power steering, and brake fluids flushed. My radiator had floaties in it. I assume from my blown heater core that i just bypassed last week. . Brake and steering fluids were both BLACK
upper and lower radiator hoses- were replaced, both soft as crap
All in all, i'm embarrassed at how much it cost to get all this crap done, but i got the car toed and repaired in under 24 hours. So im stoked on that.

Truly painful!

Did you do the work yourself or did you pay labor for all the new parts to go on?

Let's see:

New Alternator
New Distributor
New Harmonic Balancer
Crank Bearing (or related parts)
Flushed - Coolant, Steering, and Brakes

Dude, that must have cost at least $800 or even a good bit more. Labor ain't cheap, so maybe $1,200 is a better guess.

Hopefully all that will keep you problem free for a while. Before I got on this site, I had a couple experiences like that and didn't even try to fix stuff myself. Something I still can't do, but I do what I can and have time for.

dont forget towing. It was almost 2 grand

At least you got it fixed quickly and the problems are over for the car.

Been in your shoes once and those horrible memories are very clear as many parts failed all at once. Now I'm real cautious about fluids being changed once a year (oil 4 times a year). So far, my replacement parts are lasting longer than my stock parts.

My stang is my daily driver, so I pray that any serious problems ONLY show up on a weekend: gives me time to figure out what's wrong and then plan on what parts to buy, which parts I can fix and what I need someone else to fix.

Feel bad for you dude, but hang in there. At least you know that the parts you replaced will last a good long while.

I thought that was ok, as long as they weren't cracked.

That's when you would have seen me on the side of the road ..... installing a new alternator. You might have even seen me tear it down to put a new armature, brushes, or VR in there, lol. I absolutely HATE having to pay someone to do work. They charge rediculous amounts.


Sorry to hear that, though. Liked Car Nut said ... at least you know now that they'll last a while.

soft is how there supposed to be!!!! It's when there hard and brittle is the bad thing.

no, too soft means they are worn down and about to blow...they shouldn't be ROCK HARD and brittle, but they should be firm...if you wanna know how one SHOULD feel, go to your local parts house and ask for a new one...squeeze it...when the ones on your car feel softer than that, you are gonna have problems soon

hey man we've all been there. that seems a bit pricey but hey at least its all done, done right, and out of the way and you can have fun blasting around without a worry in your head, besides what the next mod will be lol

I wish i coulda done the work myself. I go to school everyday tho with a half hour commute. It sucks. I dont have any tools down here either. they are all back home(5 hours away). So i was kinda in a jam and had to have someone fix it for me so i wasnt in my garage killin myself over it not being fixed while i should be in class...
