I think it's pretty clear that redline does not like eli manning...
Now about Eli..
I don't want to start a fight with the giants fans but I am going to call it as I see it. I am not sold on this guy... I do not see him ever getting to the level of his brother not even close in fact, In fact I think he is David Carr or Joey Harrington with a brother who is a all time great.. The giants would be better off in the short term bringing Warner back. I could be wrong but I think the Giants got a bust in eli...
Let me take a minute and address this "Eli" issue. It's pretty strange how people always like to poke at Eli while virtually no one is tooting a horn in support of him.
I'm a member of a very large Giants board and Eli's play has been discussed to nauseum for years now.
Some of you may be aware that Eli came to the Giants for 1 reason: Ernie Accorsi the former Giants GM was in love with young Eli and wanted to leave a legacy for himself. He basically sold the farm to get him. The cost of Eli was very high.
In Accorsi's defense, almost every draft scout and web site dealing with the 2004 draft had Eli Manning rated as the #1 pick that year. I got to see a few of Eli's college games and he did play very well.
The majority of Giant fans did NOT want the Giants to trade picks to move from #4 to #1` and grab the younger Manning. Most wanted Big Ben, as did I. My vision was to retain Collins for a year or 2 while Big Ben was learning. In addition, the Giants could easily parlayed the #4 pick into several picks by trading down 1-2 times and still getting Big Ben.
Due to the high cost of what many of us Giants fans call "Accorsi's blunder", we are basically stuck with Eli for the forseeable future.
Eli has a few good points. HE has been able to remain fairly injury free. That's very important to the G-men b/c there is no backup QB worth 2 squirts of goat piss. Eli has had several good games where he has lead the team in a come from behind victory. He has on a few occasions looked like a great QB. However, he is very inconsistant.
It may be time for a good house cleaning coaching wise to see if there is a coach who will put Eli into a situation where the offense is RUN first, like Big Ben injoys. The Coughlin crew threw the young Eli into a downfield passing offense when he is expected to be as good as his brother or Brady, without the experience. Obviously, this is not going to happen.
In summary, Eli is a very average QB who is very inconsistant. With better WR's or ones who are not gimpy or over the hill, he may do better. Also, with the Giants leading the league in dropped passes, it may pay to invest in Crazy Glue. You will be hard pressed to find Giant fans that say that Eli is a very good QB. So when a poster begins to point out flaws in Eli or the fact that they did not do well in the big trade of 2004, you are preaching to the choir.
