going to the track tomarrow. what are some tips and weight reductions? how do i remove the front sway bar? also, what should i expect when im at the track? water box, light tree, etc. thanks

p.s. a search didnt help

First and Foremost - Take your newly found lady friend with you.

Next - Take out your passenger and backseats, and your passenger headlight. Drop the tire pressure in your back tires down to around 20 psi. If you aren't on drag radials, don't do a burnout. If you aren' doing a burnout, drive AROUND the water box, not through it.

When staged at the light, it's simple. Wait until you see the last yellow light and go. Don't drop the clutch, you'll spin. Let the clutch out semi slowly, and if you start to break traction, let out of it slightly then get back in it gradually. Shift around 5800 RPMs.

Good luck!

if your goin to remove some weight. (seats tire jack etc..) I would remove all your stereo equipment also.

just clean of your tires. (don't burn them). And when you see the last yellow light come on the tree, GO!!!! and take off as hard as you can with out burnning up the tires,. Feather the clutch as you are leaving the line.

just have fun. :nice:

Definetely no water box, take their advice on the tree, my first time at the track, I was waiting for the green, and got terrible reaction time (+1.00s)(ashamed to admit), 5800 is a good shift point, mine was high in rpms in 3rd at the 1/4 mile mark, tried shifting into 4th but didn't help. I didn't do a full out burn out, but did clean my tires, I didn't have to much problem with wheel spin off the line, did chirp them in 2nd though,(that was cool)

Good luck, don't break anything, the time posted is stock and I did not take any weight out such as seats, did have less than 1/4 tank though.

:D

The thing is you don't need to worry about your reaction time. You will run the same et no matter what!

First thing to do is get there early and watch a few passes. Pay attention and notice what everyone else is doing so that when it's your turn you feel more comfortable and won't embarrass yourself...not that you would.
When you are ready to try it out, get in line and wait your turn.
Go around the waterbox if you are on anything other than slicks. Do just enough of a burn out to dust or clean your tires off.
When it's time to stage you'll see two lighs on the tree that must be lit. When you trigger the first light (pre stage) wait for the other guy to do the same before you slowly inch forward and trip the final beam. Now you are staged. (Lets not get into shallow or deep staging just yet...unless you understand it). Once the other guy does the same you're ready to go. Watch the tree and as soon as the last amber lights up, take off. Don't get too aggresive or you'll lite up the stockers. Then drive it like you stole it...
Don't get down if your first few passes aren't what you expect. Just have fun and PRACTICE...you'll get it!
Work HARD on your 60 ft times....that's the key to a good run. Try to cut a good 2.0-2.1 on those stock tires...1.8's or so if you are on DR's..

Enjoy!

thanks everyone for the good advice. i have kuhmo 275s all around, so i should do i little better than i would with the stock goodyears. do you think i can hit 13.9s? thats all i want is to hit a 13. btw, how do i remove the front sway bar? is it dangerous to drive w/ it off??

You'll have a much better shot if you take out all the stereo equipment, spare tire etc....If you can get some traction, you should be able to get a 13.9 for sure. A lot depends on the track, weather conditions etc....
You'll be okay driving w/o the front sway bar, just don't go crazy in the twisties!

i just took out the spare tire/jack and the sub box. im gonna leave the amps b/c its too much of a pain to unscrew them both and disconnect all the wires. not to mention putting them back in. so what does the front sway bar look like? theres one thats fairly short, just behind the oil pan, and the other is just in front of the engine right under the stock t/a. its a longer bar that connects on both sides almost all the way to the wheels. which one do i take off?

Don't go to the track with more than a 1/2 tank of gas. A little bit of weight in the rear helps for traction(weight transfer), but you don't want more than a 1/2 a tank of gas or all that stero equipment in the trunk.

Like suggested, stay out of the water, and drop your air down to between 20-24psi depending on the track prep conditions. I've got several time slips with 2.0 60' times a a few 1.9's on the stock G/Y's. You've got to try different things out of the hole. Most of the time I find I run worse if I do a small burnout. Usually I just dump the clutch enough to clean the tires off. Try that and then try doing a small burnout and compare the results. You'll see from your time slips and how it feels which works better for you.

Are you taking your "New Friend" with you for good luck? :D

Kiss Her already :damnit:!!!!!!

Also, How'd you do at the track.

i didnt go to the track tonight, i mgoing tomarrow night.

how do i remove the rear seats? is it straight forward?

2nd date w/ her i taught her to drive a stick and pussed out again on the kiss. we kind of agreed not to get romantically attatched since she will be moving, but i dont know if i can control myself for too long

No need to worry about reaction.....WHAT!?!?!?!?!

You may run the same ET but when it comes to bracket racing your reaction time is what you have to rely on. Leave the light half a second later than the other guy and your beat.
Work on your launch during the time trials, but don't neglect your reaction or you'll get eliminated in the first round!!!!!!

Dont forget to keep your A/C off in line. You dont want to drip water on the track.

Post up those time slips!

just removed pass seat

so total i've removed my sub box (2 10s), pass seat, rear seat bottom only (since rear seat backs have amps and i didnt want to mess w/ them), spare tire, and jack. how much weight do you think i lost? also, when i get to the track, im gonna remove my pass headlight and bring tire psi to ~25. anything else im forgeting??
