Going to carb from efi, best way to do fuel setup

they sell a in tank pick up tube for getting rid of the fuel pump in tank get one and a inline fuel pump and filter then run new -an line to engine bay and adapt it to your carb

sorry i read it wrong

i have a 86-93 intank pump with a inline filter under the hood connecting straight to my carb.. i also have a holley fuel pump on my firewall as a secondary but is not hooked up yet..

u can take the fp. out of the tank but leave the bracket 4 it . put in a piece of hose the same lenghth as the fp. was back in tie it 2 the bracket -- . under the hood below the brake booster u can cut the plastic lines off wher they conn. 2 metal lines and use rubber hose . u can use a 3 way fuel filter under the hood if u want 2 use the return line -- .put your new fp. near the tank and cut away any plastic lines u have 2 and replace with hoses

There are a lot of ghetto ways to fab up a fuel pickup, or you can buy the real thing, or even hit up a junkyard for a tank from a carbed car (what i would do). A lot of people just take the pump off the little bracket that it's on, and put some fuel line straight down into the tank with a sock filter on the end of it. This works but may not work forever. If you're gonna do it right and take the tank out of the car, it'd be just as easy to put the right tank back in from a carbed car.

I'm not wanting to ghetto rig it by no means!! It would be impossible to find a carb car around here to get a tank from. I wish there was a replacement in tank pump that put out the low psi that the carb needs

Buy yourself a granatelli or central coast pickup for in the tank. get your fuel pump of choice something that will pump 6-10 psi or so at 100 gph. I like to use the alum. 3/8 spooled fuel line to run up to car but the braided stuff works very well also. lay out your new fuel line along bottom of car, I like to hide mine in my subframes. find a good place to mount your pump and filter safely and securely and start to lay out your lines. if you get a pump that requires regulator you can mount that on your strut tower under hood.

Good deal, thanks for the suggestions. I plan on picking up a complete car at the salvage sale, had tossed around the idea of just dropping the 5.0 EFI in it, still debating exactly what to to

I personally like mechanical fuel pumps for carbed cars. There are some badass mechanical pumps out there these days and that's one less electrical item to wire up and deal with.

mechanical pumps work well I just don't like the parasitic drag they produce, and the fact that if the bladder in them ever goes bad they can fill your crankcase with gas(i had that one happen on the 84) but to each his own they both work well.

I am in the process of converting mine over to carbed. I used the granatelli tank insert, but i found it on craigslist brand new. I called everywhere, and they were on backorder for at least 4 weeks. Even cartech was out of stock of their own brand, guy said they are real popular. I used braided stainless line, if you use that, do yourself a favor and get the hose cutters for it, and some -an wrenches and the vice jaws, it will make your life a lot easier. You could also do a sumped tank but that is way more expensive. I used the Mallory comp 140 pump and regulator, summit sold them as a kit and it was reasonably priced. You can also use the A1000 which is what a lot of guys use. Good luck with it!

I also run an A1000 on a carbed motor you just need to run a return line that is huge to keep the flow going and keep as little backup at reg as possible and it works. For example we run a 10an up to reg and a 12an return line, that keeps the pump happy.
