I'm going to get a motor @ a junkyard in Nashville ... If they do not have a 5.0 H/O .. How much power difference is it between a Thunderbird or a Lincoln or an LTD?

Thanks :SNSign:

If it has the HO motor, the only real difference is the intake and cam, they used the '86 style intake which is smaller than the '87+, and the cam was made more for a heavy car.

Chances are those motors weren't as beat on as the mustang motors.

If I were you.. I would personally look for a 5.0 out of an Explorer.

They are already equiped with better heads and Intake than the mustang 5.0.

gt-40 (cobra) intake and either gt-40(cobra) heads or the gt-40p heads (depending on what year).

All you gotta do is swap out for a hi-performance cam and you got yourself a very stout and cheap performer.

My car is originally a 4 cyl car & it has the 4 cyl wiring harness. If I find an Explorer 5.0 .. What all wiring would I have to change? Because my car is now carb.

Thanks Again

any v8 engine will install the same way...carb install is not going to use the harness at all so it doesn't matter which 5L motor you chose the install for the carb set up will be the same.

Its a good idea to look for a 302 out of an explorer. As for hp ratings on non h.o. say 1988 thunder bird they were rated at 155 hp at i believe 4000 rpm. They did make over 300 ft/lbs of torque at 2000 rpm.

Do you mean what wiring would you have to change to put a carb'd v8 in there, or what wiring would you have to change to put a fuel injected v8 in there?

If you're going to keep it carburated, DMAN's right, you shouldn't have to change anything.

If you're going to inject it, I believe you would want a wiring harness from a '89-93 (mass air) 5.0 mustang. You would also need the computer and some other stuff, some guys here are experts on that, I really don't know for sure. Using the Explorer's OBDII harness would be WAY more trouble than it's worth, in my opinion.

5.0 from an explorer would be my first priority. Keep in mind some things like the oil pan and front accessories will need to be changed. The Explorer also runs a Distributorless ignition, so you'll have to find a mechanical dist off a 5.0 and use that.

Next in line would be a 5.0 HO from an 88-92 Lincoln Mark 7. Same 225HP 5.0 as the Mustang, slight differences here and there, but it should drop right in.

Then i'd go for a 93-95 t-bird 5.0 HO. It's more of an SN95 style 5.0 with a lower intake and different accessory setup, so yhou'll need to do a little swapping of parts

that motor is rated at 200 HP...make sure you use the NON HO firing order...unless you swap the cam, then you can use the HO firing order

150HP, 270TQ

RIp the heads and cam off, get a nice cam and at LEAST some E7's and install a good aftermarket intake and 65mm TB and those numbers will shoot way up

yes, and the blocks are the same. 87-up 5.0's were roller cam, regardless of being HO or not. don't forget though, the non HO will not have valve reliefs in the pistons, so it will be like modding an 86 HO.
