Well i have been really busy and only had a few nights to spend time on it since it died on my a couple weeks ago. Originally i was just driving and the car let out a sqeal and backfired and then just died. My spark was intermittent and just not firing right based on my timing light not flashing when it should. I changed out my MSD dizzy for my stocker and it didnt help. I changed my coil and my TFI module and that did not really seem to help except that after i did those two it would kind of stumble like it was firing on some cylinders.

Now:
After playing with the timing by me cranking it and my dad playing with the timing light and twisting the dizzy it will only run with the spout out and the timing at 30-35 degrees, if i bring the timing below 25 it will die almost instantly. The A/f ratio will be real lean like in the 17s. With the spout in it will still run but it surges like crazy and wants to die. In a data log it was giong in and out of closed loop but probably because of the surging. Everything else seemed alright in the data log.

HELP!!!!

Are you sure your not 180 out? sounds like your not at TDC on compression.

It may be worth going over your elec. connections and putting some di-electric grease on the dizzy points.

I know its kinda far feched but I had an old chebby (66 impala) when I was 16-17 and had a starter wire short out on the longtubes and it REALLY did some funky things that several thought it was timing or ignition related.

i have not tried different injectors at all i may have to try that soon. I was running great at normal before this. I have tried two different dizzys as well.

It sounds like a camshaft timing problem to me. I had one car that I couldn't get to run unless it had 58 degrees timing!!! It turned out the person that built the engine didn't degree the cam and the timing chain set was marked wrong.

I am not dure what could have happened but it's possible the timing chain skipped a tooth or the dowel pin in the cam broke. Rule out everything else first though because it's a good bit of work to tear down the front of the motor.
