Had a guy come into my buddy's shop yesterday, he had a t-56 out of a trans am. I been wanting to do a 6 spd conversion to my fox and he only wanted 400 for it and needed to sell. It still has a warranty on it from the rebuild. My question is will the trans bolt up to my 5.0?

i had a t-56 out of a TA a while back, i bought a bellhousing from quick time, i dont remember the company, but they were up in idaho, quick time hooked me up with them, they sent me a list of parts for everything i would need to run the GM tranny, it was roughly $1500 in parts...i suggest selling that one and going with a ford unit, from D&D maybe, or if you are going to keep it then try and find an LSx...i got a buddy here thats got a '93 cobra with a 6.0 out of an escalade and a powerglide...that thing is a beast...it runs 7.12's all day on motor in the 1/8th and mid to low 6's on bottle...

If your 5.0 is stock, you prob don't want a T-56 either. The gear ratios aren't suited for the 5.0's power, and you'll actually be slower than you would with the 5-spd

They do sell aftermarket 5th gears for a T-5.

It would make 1-4 your only usable gear to accelerate in, but 5th gear would be low.

I think astroperformance sells them, but they are $250 or so for the set? 5th gear is pretty easy to install though. You only need to take the tailhousing off. A couple c-clips and you can swap the gears right out.
