Time for a new motor but I am on a budget so I am thinking of going with m&r motors 331 shortblock cuz they are local, custom ground cam with 3000-6000 rpm range,gt40 heads and reuse my v1 supercharger 9psi and my holley systemax intake mani. Does this sound like a pretty decent setup for a budgeted car. If you can think of something better I would appreciate some other opinions. Oh yea I want it to be street legal as well.

well obviously the last part of your top end is going to hold you back as those gt40 heads will hold back your whole setup. But they will work and you will make good hp with that supercharger regardless. (I am assuming you are using gt40 irons because if your not than I dont see how that is a budget build lol) but anyways, a set of bigger aluminum heads will make a world of difference, but I dont think you will be disappointment for a budget build with that setup. Someone might suggest it but I wouldnt waste time porting the heads, if you do that you mine as well hold out save a couple hundred more bucks and get some aluminum. If you already have the heads, getting them ported by a pro may be worth it. Oh and I halso have a set of gt40p heads for sale if you are interested shoot me a pm

They are the cast heads lol. I considered GT40P's but I already have long tubes and I heard the headers don't line up or the spark plug angle is different. I haven't seen any of the lager budget aluminum heads the are cali smog legal.

i know for sure the street versions of the trick flow heads are cal. legal, and im pretty sure the eddy's, afr's , and holleys are too. just looked at afr, and up to the 185cc have carb numbers. the tfs or afr's would probably be way more suited to a 331 than the gt40's.

I was also wondering if I should go with 185cc or 165cc if I decide to get aluminum
heads.

i'd say 185's with what you want to do. tfs has some cnc ported 205's as well, been trying to find carb numbers for em, but no luck so far. something that size may be even better suited (especially on a 347 over a 331)

Yes I agree 185's would be a good choice. I think I will look around for a set of tfs or some afr's.
