Good hooking street tire???

Depends on the weather and useage these "street" tires are gonna see. If you only mean "DOT legal" by "street tire," I'd go with one of the above drag radials; if you're talking about a tire with some actual tread life and multi-weather properties, I'd recommend a set of either BF Goodrich KDWS or (what I have) Fuzion HRi tires. The Fuzions look nice and are awesome for cornering, although the stiffer sidewall kinda roughens up the ride a bit. For a regular radial tire, they grab VERY nicely, especially for a stock-sized (225/60/15) tire - they grip better than even the 255/60/15's that I took off of the rear. VERY well-priced, too, although if you have the bucks, I'd be going for the KDWS's first - more expensive, but pretty reputable performance.

It's really a matter of what you would be willing to give up in order to get more traction.
Typically, the better traction a tire gives, the less miles you will get out of them.
I like the Nitto DR's for hooking well and lasting longer than other street DR's.
BFG DR's will hook better as will Mickey Thompson's, but they will wear out faster and you won't want to get caught in the rain with them.
I will be getting some 315-35-17 Nitto DR's for my car soon.

DR's are great for traction but will surely get you in an accident if you have to drive in the rain. In the snow.... well, lets just skip snow for now.

Bridgestone G009's. It's an all weather tire with a nice design. I don't drive my car in the rain or snow, but I also don't need a DR.

I had the nittos drag radials on my car. They hooked pretty good for me at the track. 1.82 60ft on a lowered car, but on the street they sucked. wouldnt hook up at all. Any part of a 2nd gear roll on and the tires would spin untill i was half way through 3rd. Once they were heated up they hooked up better, but you cant just heat your tires up anywhere. My BFG KDWS tire hooked up far better on the street but not as good at the track. My buddy has 275/40/17 Falken Ziex tires and they hook good on the street and are pretty good at the track ( low 1.9's on a true street tire is pretty good. )
can you even really really baby a BFG DR and be ok in the rain, it doesnt rain here very often.
I got a guy who has some BFG drag radials for sale, 75$ for 2, are 16" and pretty fat, i think they will still fit on my wheels. I am thinking of buying them and just having fun with them, maybe go to the track a couple times with them, hell they are cheap so if they dont exactly last a whole summer i am ok....

I have been driving on Nitto DR's for about a year now. Two pairs so far...I get about 9-10k out of them. They grab awesome...and you do need to be somewhat careful in the rain. It doesn't shake my rain confidence though...

whilw we are on the topic, whats the biggest size that will fit under a lowered fox with 16" wheels?

I'll take them for $75. BFG's are just nasty. And from personal experience, if you have power, the BFG's are gonna kill the Nitto's at the track (not to mention BFG has the domestic and import drag radial world records). There's not much more I can say that hasn't already been mentioned.Foxfan88 said:

yeah i liked my nitto 555r's on the street and they worked pretty good in the rain. gunna try the MT's this year and see how they work.
I will never drive on drag radials in the rain again. I live in OK too and totaled my 11 sec GT in a light rain on BFG Drag Radials. (The rain was very light - I didn't have wipers on the car, just Rain-X and had no trouble with visibility) I was driving down the road at 10mph below the speed limit at 2AM with no cars around. When I went onto an overpass the road changed from asphalt to concrete for the bridge. The small lip at the transition was enough for the tires to break loose and spin me out. I hit the concrete guardrail head on. Now I just run ET Streets on my Mustangs and drive my Jeep in rain/snow.Foxfan88 said:

i just got a set of BFgoodrich traction t/a v's put on the back of mine. 245/50/16 there almost 10 inches wide. they hook awesome! rain is almost as good as dry traction. i had to get um becuase the crappy kumhos couldnt get me out of my driveway in the snow. these dig right through it. i would highly recommended this for an all season tire. they have a 440 treadwear, AA traction and an A temp.

What would you guys recommend for my car for my 15x8 welds in the back, i can get nitto's from work for cheap, are their 275/50/15s wide?
