For those of you who have been following the continuing saga of oil loss in the 66, I found something interesting today.
RECAP: Oil loss at highway speeds. Possible bad ring. So-So compression, but nothing too bad.
Anyway, I was under the car replacing my oil pressure sending unit and noticed that where I had cleaned off who knows how many years of gunk on the pan, bell housing and tranny pan, I have some new seeps. The front of the pan is covered with a light coat of oil and the driver's side of the pan has some heavy seeps (oil in recessed bolt heads.) Also, the bell housing had a few drops of accumulated oil on the edges and the access/inspection plate was covered in oil, too. Tranny pan had some tranny fluid, but that's a different story.
So, maybe my car is leaking and it just isn't hitting the ground in amounts that I can see--ie. it is blowing back as I drive.
So, what d'ya think? Rear main? Pan gasket? What would cause a leak down the front of the pan . . .
My usage is about a quart every 1000 now.
Crazy thing is that the car was completely tight, oil wise, until May when it went haywire and started using.
Anyway, I'm hoping that, while this isn't good news, it is better news. . . Or am I just blowing sunshine up my ***?

PS Why is the damn oil pressure sending unit completely sandwhiched between the AC compressor and the oil filter? I hate those things that you can clearly see, but never get to. Ah, well, I got to spend some quality time with my car. . . .
