I got some good news today and thought i would share it all w/ you, I am getting work done on my car/helping my mechanic and we checked out the cylinder walls and pistons and there isn't barely any wear, you see my car burns oil, 1 quart every 500 miles, so now i know its not the pistons/rings, which is GOOD because i got rebuilt heads put on and replaced the rear lower intake seal also, which was compeltely broken and not sealing $h|t! my mechanic/friend also said the car wasn't properly broken in, but hes seen worse. This means, now w/ the newly rebuilt stock heads and typhoon intake, i have a rebuilt top end, which he says is typically what "goes" first, the bottom end doesn't usually go, what this means is i am going to throw on a vortech doing 14lbs of boost, maybe more? have a good night guys, i know i will! oh yeah and by the way, my car has 100K miles on it...is 14 lbs safe?

How the heck can you determine if a car was "broken in" properly, there really is no break in proceedure only what you see fit to do. If the break in was wrong as the mechanic stated wouldn't the rings be the issue and hence be the item needing replacement? I'd love for him to explain his statement to me. Anyways congrats on having a solid bottom end, but why didn't you just do a compession and leak down test to determine the cars health? Just a last thought..my engine builder dropped off the engine in my sig last weekend..he said it was primed and for me to bring her up to temp, check for leaks, and then proptly "give her hell". The man builds race and performance engines all day everyday..

14# of boost on a car using oil at that rate will net you some really nice repair shop bills....but what if the supercharger was not broken in properly?. Tip: take the car to another mechanic and have him do a compression and leak down test to find out where your oil is going.

we will see if im still losing it, i need to drive it around first, to see if the rebuilt heads fixed the problem. as for my mechanic, he could tell about the break in period by the cylinder walls, this guy is SELF TAUGHT and has been working on cars his whole life, i doubt you guys can say the same....whoever said there isn't a break in period...

several million cars leave the lots of dealerships and from the minute they turn the key the car is driven differently by each owner. Some drive hard some drive easy..wether to pick up groceries or down the strip. No two people "break in" a car the same and they still last, my old motor had 197000 miles on her and none of which were easy and it ran like a raped ape till I pulled it. The engine builder for my present mill puts engines together all day long most of them are performance orientated..his advise was to warm her up check for leaks and "strange noises", drive for a bit and check for noises and leaks again..then drive it how you want. The break in is a theory..some follow it some don't,either way the engines still magically hold together. Your guy can't look at cylinder walls and determine "break in" proceedure on a car with 100,00 miles I'm sorry to say but can determine the wear of rings etc. As for our knowledge of these cars..I'd be taking Mr. Younts imput over most anyones on here or any where else on any given day. Sorry just a bit more..you are buring oil at a rapid rate..I hope it was your valve seals or poor intake seal but if it is blowby then you need to look at a rebuild, you have 100,000 miles on a car that was likely abused on a regular basis and it lasted for that long..so how does the "mechanic say it was broken in wrong..the damn thing lasted 15yrs!!
