I was gonna say, you HAVE seen my dyno havent you?
How hard was it to modify the GT pump to fit in our tanks? Id really like the 03/04 Cobra tank/Pumps for good fuel delivery and OE driveability, but damn, its like $700 new.
Not too bad, but I can save you a ton of hassel.
If you can get ahold of another stock basket that would be awsome..but if not, you should be able to modify your stock basket. Just needs about two 5/8 inch holes drilled into the side off it about half way up to prevent the feared "draining the basket".
I drilled 5/8 inch holes... but like 9 of them I think

. MAYBE overkill, but I KNEW when I was done "no pump on earth will drain this basket

".
before I get started....I used the stock hard plastic fuel line and modified it to connect the pump to the regular fuel line but I do not recommend it at all...it was a PAIN to work with, 0 flexibility it seemed.
I would recommend high grade high pressure fuel line thats gas resistant. And also some fuel injection clamps would probably be the best. Im not 100% sure on the size..but when you get the GT pump in, get some line that will fit over the spout....BUT the rest of teh connections are slightly bigger, so make sure the hose you get isnt overly snug on the GT pump, so it will fit else where. 1 foot will do.
What your going to do is totally ditch the "dual hat" system like factory. Hack the stock hard plastic hose up if you want....just dont cut the plastic spouts as you will need them to have something to connect the new rubber hose to haha. Only thing you will need is that littke plastic check valve thats inline...it bolts to the basket in stock form but you can leave it loose now.
I hooked the GT pump directly the first time and it had a hard time holding fuel presure. So I had to open it back up and put that check valve inline and that did the trick...so I assume its needed.
SOOO in a nut shell the fuel line will go directly from the GT pumps outlet to the check valve...and from the check valve to the top of the inside of the fuel tank where the fuel line comes through the tank. Thats it....much simpler setup....and no worring about the hat leaking (it WILL too...did with my GT pump).
Since I dont have pics (they are on modularfords.com...search should find some threads. BUT at that point I didnt know I was going to have to eleminate the hat system, so ignore anything about notching the hat) it sounds complicated....but its very simple.
And yes the large filters that are attached to the GT pump will fit in the basket....but remove the black hose and the plastic half casing thing that comes on the pump.
The only other modification you will have to do is to the wiring...but its easy. Just need 2 female addapters and a cheap cuttur/crimper/wire stripper tool. The GT pump usues to seperate male connections. Positived on one side and the negative is on the other....so the stock plug connector wont work. Just check which way it plugs into the SVT pump so you can be 100% sure which colour wire is + and which is - (its fairly obvious).
Cut the connection off and expose a bit of wire from each of the 2 now seperated wires...then crimp or solder (torch + gas = bad...we crimped) the new female connections on the wires and simply plug + wire to the + side on the pump and - to the - side....and bingo your finshed
