My friend got a GoPro HD Hero for his birthday last week so we spent Sat playing with it. The thing is a blast! Here's one of the videos we made using my car. I took the raw footage from the GoPro and made a simple vid with Microsoft Movie Maker.

Don't put them behind your backtire. You can throw up rocks and scratch the lens cover.

Your car sounds great!

It reminds me of how mine used to sound

I agree with Mark, but it does make for a pretty cool camera angle!

no problem. I've learned from doing it on one of mine. I now have a tiny scratch in one that shows up as a glare spot at the track or when bright light hits it. Not sure if this or one of the other videos where I put it behind one of the tires caused it.

Now I put them on top or in front of a tire, as seen here when I mounted it on a fellow forum member's mustang. You will have to excuse him missing 3rd.

Does anyone sell a lens filter? I have one on both my video camera and my DSLR camera. That way I don't damage the lens surface.

Here's some we took of mine with my buddies GoPro. We hadn't figured out how to correctly aim it yet, so it was a little off.

this one is literally just cruising around

Thanks! The GoPro doesn't do a great hob of capturing sound but it did pretty well with my car.

The go-pro cameras come with a protective case. When you take it out of the case, it is basically like a normal video camera with full sound quality. The case helps keep the wind noise down and also serves as the mounting platform for the camera. The plastic case can scratch though.

Yes, they do make a lens cover that I just got, but haven't tried. It is a glare reduction lens, kind of like sunglasses.

I wonder if that would work to keep scratches away. Anyone buying a camera should always buy a lens protector (they're usually just clear glass) otherwise you run the risk of damaging the lens surface.

No, it goes over the lens of the camera, which is enclosed in the case. All the go-pro videos you see have the case on them. The case is the protective measure for the camera and lens.

nice... strange that they wouldn't have a provision built into the case to put a stronger glass lens to keep the plastic part from being scratched, you know?

That's true. I think they are very durable though. I believe the case has a lifetime warranty.

I'm not really worried about the lens anymore. Most the time, my go pro cameras are facing backwards now.

Makes sense... BTW, those UR Lambo vid's with the rear facing camera you posted up a while back were SICK I'd love to see those cars in action some time.

What is going on here? I was looking at GoPros the other day, now on here and a couple of other boards I frequent, people are posting up GoPro vids. Get outta my head!

Seriously though, you guys use the suction mount to stick it to the side of the car?

that's what I did; that suction cup is a beast. I could probably hold on to it on the side of the car; and that camera is about 214lbs less than me!

They are quite popular now. They have been around for a while. There are actually better cameras than the go-pros now, for cheaper or the same price. They are good to 200mph, but many guys have gone faster with them and they still hold on fine. I've got some videos with them that are pretty cool, but I can't post them due to forum rules.
