Good plan for now. Throw a shoft-throw shifter in there too just for the hell of it.

How do you figure the intake is a waste of money. Probably the most bang for the buck mod on an early 4.6L engine there is. Where else can you pick up 30+hp for around $200? If anything, I'd say the headers are the biggest waste of time and money in that equation. You'll gain next to "zero" horsepower on a NPI engine with headers and mid pipe alone! The exhaust ain’t coming out any faster if you're not getting the air in there to begin with!

If it were my money, I'd do a PI intake/Cam/Tune/Gear swap all in one shot, then start saving again and go with the a Centrifugal style blower next.

This sort of makes sense, but one question: you're saying for the first round of mods, he should get cams, then the next round would be a blower. Wouldn't the N/A cam not work well with the blower, or were you suggesting a blower cam, which I imagine would make his car run worse than the stock NPI cam while he's still NA? Just asking, curious about this myself because the next thing I'm looking at is cams but I also want a blower eventually.

PI intake and cams, gears, midpipe, nitrous, tune.

I swear you will be happy with the result of that, and you can do it within budget if you know where to look and do some of the work yourself.

Just buy a blower first...that way you have it. Then do a PI intake swap. At that point shove about 12-14PSI on it and all will be well.
Boost is a measure of restriction, nothing more....all we are worried about here is how much air is being filled in the cylinders. It takes more boost to get the same amount of air in an NPI engine, than it does a PI motor.

So dont do the 8PSI crap....go right to 12PSI. Then as you open up the intake and add cams, and open up the exhaust, you will notice that you boost will start dropping. Most likely back to around the normal 8PSI. Then you can pulley down another 2PSI or so and still be safe.

Just my opinion.

PI intake and cams can be installed by yourself without much problem. Easily done for $300 if you shop right

Gears--$150 for the set plus the install--so look to spend around $500 total for this. This will be one of the best bang for the buck mods.

A midpipe is important for sound and really helps to get rid of the stock SIX cats. I went with a mac prochamber for $130 or so. Just browse online and you'll find a deal if you look hard enough.

Those 3 mods alone will be quite a different car.

No, I was suggesting the stock (or at least late model PI cams) I've got PI cams and ported heads on my blown combo and make 410hp/465TQ seeing only 9psi on the boost gauge. The N/A PI cams can make great power on a blower car. People are often way too quick to criticize and change them out IMO. They often mistake lumpy idle for horsepower, which is very often not the case and more often than not, what they pick up on top, is sacrificed down low. And killing low end torque on a 4.6L is something you really can't afford to do!
