Got a couple questions.

Hey whats up? I'm new here. I'm most likely picking up a 1996 mustang gt convertible with a manual transmission this Saturday. I'm almost positive its all stock, aside from the clutch & starter, so I'm looking into what to do to it so far.

I've made a little list of the things I plan on definitely doing to it, but I'm sure I'll always be adding on to it. So anyway, heres for the questions.

How much would a convertible top cost to replace? I am looking around for a decent shop in the area, but I'm not really having that much luck, I know of one, but its extremely expensive, and from what i hear, the work is very iffy.

How wide of a tire can I go in the back? I know I'm going to need to replace the tires, and I don't have enough money to replace the tires and rims for now, so I'm just going to put new tires on, and down the line put DD black bullitts with a chrome lip.

Will a shaker bolt on like on the Mach 1s? I remember seeing a shaker kit a couple years ago in MM&FF, but I can't seem to find it again.

What sound systems were offered with the 1996 GTs? Were there any package deals like with leather interior you get this sound system, etc?

Thats about it. Its white with gray leather interior.


Anyone have some good pictures that I can look at of stock 96 mustang GTs, to get a better idea of the car? That would be great. Thanks ahead of time.

i have never done a top on a mustang, but i replaced one on a jeep and it was around 800 for a good one. what size wheels are on it now? im sure you could get a shaker in there, but im not sure if the kits are made to work with your model. i dont think i have seen one on a 96. im sure its possible, but there will be some work.

Chances are if it has leather, it has the mach 460. For a shaker you would have to find a kit, cut a hole in the hood and do some fabricating on top of the motor to get it to stay put.

Wow, I didn't realize how active this forum was. Didn't expect a reply this fast haha. Think i'll be spending alot of time here.

and its the stock wheels, honestly, I don't know what size they are,

thats the mustang. My guess is they are 16s or 17s.

I want a nice wide tire. I want to go 10.5" rims in the back eventually if i could. but for now I can only afford new tires for it haha.

Yeah i've never seen a shaker kit on that body style, so I'm thinking it could look really unique, or really bad. either way, unique.

maybe I can find a wrecked mach 1 to get it off of to experiment.

sorry. I'm kinda noobish, but whats included in the 460. I've read all the different systems they are offered with, but I don't know what is included with each one.

I know my brothers lawyer has a 2002 or 2001 mustang, gt convertible, and he has one of the higher end stereos in it.

I understand one of them has a 6 cd changer; If this is one that has that, where is the cd changer located? My brothers lincoln has it in the trunk.
