There really is no solution for those who believe they are above the law. There are some that it will actually take a near death experience for them to come to reality or even loose a loved one. I like Stan set my cruise control and as they fly buy me I just shake my head and wish them well. Just cause they speed doesnt mean you have to.
Good luck and be safe.

speed limit on the interstate here is 75mph. 7 mph over is excessive?

and if you're a policeman like me; you just leave your radar off (which we don't even use anymore; mostly all laser] until you see the vehicle you want; flash it on and off real quick and BAM!! you have them AND their detector goes off.... to late. About 1/2 of the people I pull over have detectors. Just be reasonable with your speed..... 82 in a 55?!?!?!?! Come on, even with the flow of traffic that's a little excessive..

Doesn't nearly every detector have a laser detector in it?

82 in a 55 should get a ticket. It's not cause your 21. Probably more so because you were breaking the LAW! I speed every day to work. 75 in a 60. I know one day I will get caught... But I prepare myself with a good detector and some common sense. But it won't save me.

As far as someone saying become a police officer... SO true. I got out of so many tickets because I have the same name as my father.... He trained a LOT of police officers... They would look at my license and their whole attitude would change... And start talking to me about remembering when I was "this tall" lol. The only ticket my father got was for racing an older Porsche on I-4 in my 5.0 (when he owned it)... going 135... Got a 78 dollar ticket, other guy got arrested Life is so unfair... It always will be, so get over it.

Key word in that statement: "nearly"

Also, that's kinda an oxymoron there: "Nearly every"

I also have an 06 GSXR 1000 and I can vouch, it's a bad ass bike and I've done 100mph in 1st gear many times. As I see it, my bike is the only import tuner to ever grace my garage.

Some of you have obviously never driven in Atlanta if you think 82 is fast. If your in the far left lane on 285 and aren't running 90 in a 55 your flat out going to get run over. And I'm talking about cars in front and behind you as far as the eye can see all running 90+ ina 55 at times.

The 4.10 gears and offroad X is probably what singled you out.

I agree, the 285 in Atlanta is like the American version of the Autoban. Drive to slow and you will be rightfuly run over.

Oh and radar/laser detectors do not work. By the time the detector goes off, you got zapped. And yes, I to am a law enforcement officer.

Here in kansas, in a 70mph zone, up to 10mph over is a NON-moving violation. It makes it completely pointless for an officer to pull you over for less than 10 over. Of course, 5 over in any other zone is a moving violation.
I normally set the cruise to 78-79 and I haven't been harrassed yet. They are after all looking for the big fish... like the ones going 82 in a 55.

On the divided highways and interstates here, 82 can feel down right slow. The roads are fairly flat, the sight distances huge and the traffic light (compared to say atlanta or the NE).

I'm not too sure about that. I'm an Electrical Engineer and every reciever I know of can pick radar or laser up a lot further away than a human can see. It's seems the detector has a huge advantage to me. If an officer is clocking someone driving in front of youu up the road, that detector will go off before you even see the car. This is of course assuming you're not using a cheapo detector with very limited range.

That sucks, theres a good stretch of I10 from Hudspeth county Tx (just outside el paso) to about 100 miles short of San Antonio where the legal posted limit is 80mph. A van and I traveling back from san antonio were clocked at 85 and got off with a warning. I dont think we should have speed limits as they vary from state to state.

I am a Police Officer (actually a Traffic Officer) also just as blackgt460 and fox1x. We like speed and horsepower just as every other guy/gal on this website or we would all be driving Hondas or electric cars. My guidelines that I live by when I'm working are 10-12 mph over on the interstate or highway and I won't look twice at you. Just sit back and cruise, let everyone pass you by and check out your ride. Not to mention, unless your on a long road trip, that little extra speed isn't going to get you to your destination that much sooner and your risking a big fine and being even later getting there because you were on a 8 or 10 minute traffic stop. The guy who metioned spending $600.00 for a lawyer on a traffic citation must either be one or know one. Where I work, we are very confident in our equipment and our ability to do our job and we will have everything in order for court. Sure a lawyer might save you a few dollars on your fine and a couple of points but, your paying him a huge fee to line the pockets of a LOW LIFE bottom feeder who defends murderers, rapists, child molesters ETC,ETC.... If your guilty take your lumps and live and learn....BE SAFE and keep banging gears.....

+2. If the officer is running the radar constantly, the detector will save you. Its when he is using laser, or as someone mentioned, only turning on the radar when needed that you get in trouble.

Depending on the road, I usually just set cruise for 70 in a 55 or 60 and 75 in a 65 or 70 zone. If I'm the only one on the road, I might knock it down a few MPH. Even when I'm doing 70 in a 55, I'm not even close to the fastest on the road, so I don't worry much about the tickets.

Also, for those who think anything over the speed limit is unsafe, keep in mind most speed limits (especially not on highways) are set in response to the speed traffic actually travels. The engineers look at the upper quartile for speed of traffic on the road, meaning the speed limit is set at the speed at which 75% of cars travel at or below. It is rarely set based on how "safe" it is to travel on said roads. Also, most 55mph zones on the highways are just left over from the national speed limit in 1974. They were set strictly for a fuel economy, not safety, standpoint.

03stangvert,

Anthony, now I ask you...have you ever given a ticket to another law enforcement officer for speeding?

Maybe I should express the difference between radar and laser. Lasers are harder to detect in advance because the laser shoots a beam about 1" per 100 yds( been sometime since I studied the manual). Also the laser only gives off a signal when the trigger is pulled. Most laser detecting device-even the 360 enabled- shoots an intercepting beam between 6 and 12 inces per 100yds so it will not detect a signal until it's too late.

Radars shoot a much wider beam, but radars for the least 15 years will also give off a signal only when when the trigger is pulled so if you are alone on the road or there are very few cars on the road then the radar detector also becomes ineffective for advance detection.

In a way, radar detector are more effective than laser detectors because most police cruisers uses equipment that emmitts a radio waves which can be picked up by radar and not laser detectors

I'm not going to deep with this, but technology is amazing and I am sure there will be an advanvce detector of some king in te next three years.

I'll agree that if you're cruising by yourself you're screwed. But I disagree that most good detectors have a hard time picking up a lasers frequency. Every detector worthwhile on the market seems to be both radar/laser.
