is mercon and dexron mercon the same is it just that dexron mercon can be used with both dexron and mercon because i cant find just mercon in any of the auto parts stores all the have is dexron mercon or mercon v witch i know will not work

Dexron Mercon III takes the place of Mercon I and Mercon II. A lot of newer vehicles are calling for Mercon 5. Our T5's take Dexron Mercon III.

Not sure about Dexron, but Mercon 5 is partially synthetic, has much higher heat resistance and is much slipperier than Dexron 3, or Mercon.

The Mercon 5 is better, actually essential, for 4r70w transmissions.

Mercon V is also the new recomended fluid for the AOD. It was not available when the AOD was in production, but Ford recomends it's use now, IF aq complete chage is made.
