Got a TSB # for TR3650 Grind!!!!!!

When I saw this thread this week I called the dealer where I bought my '03 right away. It only has 8K on it. Mine has the cold 1-2 notchiness, and sometimes a slight grind. Lately though, I have been having issues with it not going into third. I have to go back to second, then back to third sometimes to get it in.

I'm leaving for vacation Sat. for a week, and I'm leaving it with them. They were not aware of the TSB yet, so I told them I would bring a copy. Every time I have taken my car in, the service dept is great. They always are super friendly and go over everything in detail. They have always completed everything to my satisfaction, and I'm pretty anal. I don't know if they treat all their customers like this, or if they are extra nice to their Saleen owners.

my waranty is about to be up, has it really been that long. anyway i was wondering will the tsb be done by them or will i have to pay for it to be done. cause its allmost like a recall right.

No it is not like a recall. If you want it to be covered, then you need to get your stang in there before the warenty expires. Otherwise you will be forking over the dough.

Just had mine completed today. Ford is great! They took it right in and gave me a rental at no cost. They called me at the end of day one and said its almost in, and then midday on the next saying the job was completed and it drives very well.

Here is what they changed:

3R3Z-7124-AD SYNCHRONIZER A
XY-75W140-QL OIL - STEERING
1R3Z-7H150-AA VALVE ASY - TR
(3) XT-5-QM FLUID - TRANSM

P.S. Reinstall your stock shifter...it just takes a second.

I called my dealership last Friday and asked about the after-market shifter. They said - "no problem, bring it in Monday"

I went to drop my car off Monday and re-inquired about the shifter, the shop foreman said "that will void the warrantee." I told him I would take the car back, swap the shifter and bring it back. He said "sounds fine, bring it back when you are done..."

To summarize, take the 20 minutes and put the stock shifter back in, no matter what they tell you at the dealership.

I just called my dad who works at a Ford dealership and what's wierd is he said it only goes up 03. Mines an 04 but it still has the 3650.

Question for those who've had this done under warranty. On the way home from work tonight I stopped at my local stealership and talked transmissions. As it turns out the "basic warranty" (3-yr/60,000KM) runs out on my car on May 15th of this year...about a month from now. According to the talking head behind the counter, this TSB would only be covered under the basic warranty. I said "Um, but the car has a Powertrain warranty for 5 years and 100,000KMs. This is the transmission and unless I'm mistaken (a) the transmission is part of the powertrain and (b) the transmission is explicitly mentioned in the warranties book in the powertrain section." Or something to that effect. Her answer was so nonsensical I can't actually remember it but it was definitely dodging and evading.

Is this person right? Is this nonsense only covered under the basic warranty? Why wouldn't it be covered under the powertrain warranty? If she's right, does anyone have a reasonable explanation?

Some folks have reported that even after the "fix" in this TSB their gearboxes were still mucked up and Ford ended up putting a new box in the car...was that done under the powertrain warranty?

Why does dealing with a dealership always leave me feeling nausiated??

That's because the 04s have the components from the TSB installed already. The grind problem isn't supposed to affect the 04s at all.

Why wouldn't they cover it???! They should. Take your car over there before warranty is up and tell them you've been having the grinding problems for a long time and you just never had time or whatever. They need to fix it!!! I got mine done with just under 30k miles. Tell them youre not leving untill your car is fixed. If they say no, tell them youre contacting the news to tell them your story.....they'll do it.

Heh. Well, I definitely plan to leave it with them so they can drive it first thing in the morning and experience the true rock-tumbler nature of the 1-2 shift. It's just that the basic warranty is done in just a month from now - as opposed to the 5 yr/100,000km powertrain warranty - and I know they're going to waffle and hedge and wait till the basic warranty is done without actually doing the job. I was hoping to hear from others who'd had this done under warranty to see if it was done for them under the powertrain or basic... Would be a good thing to know before I head back there and start crackin' skulls.

I wrote to Ford of Canada to see what they say. If I can't get satisfaction, I'll tell them the entire Mustang on-line community will soon be heatedly discussing Ford's integrity and honour regarding warranty work and it'd be a shame if 05 Mustang sales to these same on-line rabid enthusiasts were put in jeopardy because of a silly misunderstanding...

If you get the car there before warranty is up, there shouldnt be a problem. They HAVE to fix it if you're still under warranty, a day before it's over or a year before it's over.

I don't think it matters if you're past the 3/36,000 or not. It's a TSB, almost like a recall, but not quite. Why don't you try talking to the service manager?!

Actually I think it's more because I tire of running away from them screaming like a little girl as they eagerly try to ream me yet again.

Well, my understanding is that a TSB != warranty in that if the warranty has expired, the TSB simply tells the tech specifically what to look for but you're still on the hook for the expense. If the car is still under warranty, the TSB still performs the same function - telling the tech what to do for a specific problem - but the expense is picked up by Ford.

What I'm trying to finger out is why the chick at the reamership seems to think that a fault in the transmission is not covered by the powertrain warranty. Still waiting to hear back from Frod of Canada on this topic.

Good idea about booting the serf and hauling the service manager out of his cushy office to explain things. Might try that tonight.

Brought mine in LAST YEAR for that problem and they completly swapped the tranny for a NEW TR-3650. I guess they did'nt bother changing the parts(Hey im not complaning . Still feels a tiny bit notchy when cold but no problem whatsoever.

Got a TSB # for TR3650 Grind!!!!!!
