Got called out...

Pushing 265rwhp and an auto I've dusted several bolt on and cammed LSx cars in 1/8th mile. But, I get spanked on the big end.

Case and point YouTube - Mustang GT getting the holeshot on GTO, Pony Wars 2010 SGMP This was a cam and full exhaust / slick M6 GTO.

That was a no-spray launch. If you launch with spray and have good rear suspension, you can say adios to that guy in the 1/8th. Just don't run the full 1/4.

Yeah I took my buddies heads/cam/stalled/geared/bolt on/tuned etc, yadda yadda LS1 God/28 from 0-60. He slaughtered me after that, but it's all about the holeshot.

Nice video... bad ass!

I think you have a good chance if you can hook it. Gonna need to practice your launches and see just how hard you can launch with that shot on there. :nice:

Yeah I will be bolting on the DR's tomorrow, finishing a few things and going for practice runs.

Pull the spare tire, jack, passenger seat, & rear seat out, that should help drop quite a few pounds. Make sure you get those DR's VERY sticky, & get a good 60 ft, & you should be able to stand a good chance if your buddy is really going out on street tires.

Higher hp & street tires can make it much harder to get a good launch without major spinning. A good example, I typically see tons of 03/04 Cobra's at the local track running mid to low 13's on street tires, with 400-450 rwhp LOL... Good Luck...

Only problem is with the tires I'm using I've only cut a 1.9 60'... could be track prep, could be me launching too soft, but that may change tomorrow.

And yes, the Cobra curse...:rlaugh: Some of them almost run like imports. 13.xx at 120mph...:D

Planning on ditching the spare and jack. Seats will be staying, unless the back is really easy to pop out.

i am at 440 and i fry street tires going on a 40 km/h roll , you will be ahead for the first two gears then its catch up if he hooks up at all , your chance is decent , vortechs are quiet laggy and they don't make power early :)

Yeah those are the advantages I'm going for. I'm getting pretty damn anxious. I know from a roll he'd blister my ass like there is no tomorrow.

My $0.02, don't try to launch too hard. Leave around 3k and about 10 ft out hammer it, thats how I got mine to hook on my old Nitto dr's on a 125 shot. Also, try shifting ~5600 rpm or so. You want to be at or near your peak torque when the next gear starts. Peak torque will occur as soon as your nitrous activates. My car picked up a few mph when I lowered my shift points. Good luck Ryan!

I would be willing to bet, even if you both hook fairly well, you will still beat him by 1-2 cars.

Thanks Tim... and thank you a TON for the tip on rolling out and hammering it. I was trying to figure out in my head the best way to launch in first with the N20 and not spin like hell. That may work... I hope!

I was thinking I should shift around 55-5600. Even on the juice the car doesn't "pull" any harder past that RPM. Plus when I had it on the dyno N/A, that's where the A/F started to lean out.

Even if I lose, I'd be beyond stoked to get a 7 second slip tomorrow.

If tires mean nothing then why use DR's at all, ever? i usually agree with ya nightfire, but to say tires mean nothing is just a horrible statement. Good luck man, n have fun too!

I might as well go find some donut tires for maximum weight savings then, lol.

I'm also going to disconnect the front sway in the morning... probably pull the passenger headlight at the track. You know, every little bit helps...

The passenger seat is only 4 bolts, & will save you 50 lbs

You don't even need to crawl under the car to do it and I think 30 min is all it will take so def take the seat out like mentioned above.

The front passenger seat is more like a 2-3 minute job.

I agree completely with Tim, which is basically slipping the clutch.

I would do a big 2nd gear burnout(10 seconds) on those nittos. They really need a lot of heat to perform well.

I agree Mark the only way those Nitto's will really stick is if
you do a nice healthy burnout.I loved my Nitto's when they were
nice and warm that is.

Why do you insist on calling him by his first name? Pretty creepy.
Because his name is Mark get a life.
Taking cheap shots at me again I see. :nonono:
Please don't ruin this guys thread with your bs Nightfire because he has a race coming up and it's important to him.
For the record Nightfire I think you are pretty wacko and unusual for asking me numerous times if I was 15 or wanting to know my age at all. That leads
me to belive that you are a online predator and a pedophile.
I come here for a reason to research and ask for help with
fixing the problems with my Ford Mustang. Please leave me alone Nightfire!

Yeah man for real this isn't the justice league where we can only call people by their stage names, nothing creepy about it, if i knew peoples names on here i would call em by their first name, its kinda part of social networking. Holy Hole in a Doughnut NightFire!! The Honda is Escaping!!! :D

It shouldn't be bad. I may be taking a passenger as camera guy (not on the actual pass) so I may have to leave the front it.

I usually do a healthy second gear burnout to warm them up. They are BFG's though, not Nitto's. Massive 28" tires that are a little too big for what I need, haha. Can't complain over free though.

I'd like to try a set for "street" tires next time.

lol, anyways has he agreed to the race terms yet?

Sure has.

Update...

Race has been delayed until next Sunday. This means I am ordering a window switch tomorrow so I don't have to worry about missing a shift.

The GREAT news is, my car is hooking in 1st on the spray. Thank you Tim for the pointer... I'm leaving dead on 3k, slipping the clutch and hammering 10 feet out. As soon as the RPM's kick back to 3k I'm flipping the switch and I am GONE! It's the sickest feeling ever.

The horrible news... he will have a set of SLICKS by next weekend. So I am screwed on this race, but I'm still going to defend my position.

I also pinched my feedline this morning. It doesn't appear to be leaking and when I opened the bottle the pressure expanded it back out for the most part. It didn't seem to affect the shot, but I may order a new one.

I wouldn't count yourself out just yet. Your peak torque comes on alot lower in the rpm range than a centri sc'd car will. Even if he makes alot more peak hp than you, he will still have to catch you.

Just don't miss any shifts, lol!

Your car will probably like the taller 28" tire with nitrous. Thats what I'm planning on buying next set I get.

since your car is hooking , i can see you have an acceptable chance , as it pointed out , centries aren't the best getting out of a hole and i know that by experience :D
depending on how shy he will be lunching it , your chances may vary , don't lose faith till you see him do a fly by :D

Well, I won't... I'll post why below.

I missed a 1-2 shift today (who does that...? lol) on the juice and I still have an intake...:hail2:

The tires are a little tall for my car on motor. They did good on the N20 but I think I'd rather run a 26" and be able to still get off the line without the N20... but I'd probably be out of, or close to out of gear in a 1/4 run like that.

Lol yeah, he'd probably be gaining on me hard if he didn't pass me.

Please tell me you guys are video taping this!?

Got some video... but not that video...:(

Here's what happened: No race between me and my bud. Our track that normally charges $10 or $15 to race was charging $30 today because of a bike event.

The track is NOTHING to write home about. My buddy wanted to bring his girl, so it would have cost him $50 to get in and race. Total BS. The race is off for now. May be negotiated for next weekend, or may just settle it as a win for me, as it was on my terms. Not sure yet.

I was up there with one of my other buddies, and this is where it gets good. He has a '98 Z/28 6 speed. Usual LS1 mods, lays down 44x rwhp.

The track was running about 1/2 a second slower for him and I today, so we know it wasn't an issue with our cars.

We lined up once on motor, he of course killed me badly. I hung with him on the launch but after that he started walking.

Next race we did was him on motor, me on the bottle. We 60 footed within 1/1000th of a second of eachother. He ran an 8.65 at 86.04mph to my 8.73 at 84.71mph. I was at his rear quarter panel crossing the line and it felt amazing to have not been walked by his car. So I can without a doubt say my car has responded really well to the juice.

However, my best bottle time of the day was faster than his best motor pass.

For a comparison, since those times seem stupid slow (they are) here's my N/A run vs. my best N20 run. The track was prepped with ice and butter, as usual...:nice: It was an easy 85-88* with high 80, low 90% humidity.

N/A:
60': 2.21
1/8th: 9.47...
MPH:...75.74...:rlaugh:

N20:
60': 2.04
1/8th: 8.58
MPH: 85.13

So I dropped nearly a full second off my 1/8th mile time, and gained almost 10mph...

I usually run 8.90's on motor, so had it been a day where I was running those times, that'd have been a high 7, low 8 pass...:nice:

Ignore my girly launch... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNm2jr3l7G4

Another run, better launch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTowP6nxgeo

Buddies Camaro, not sure what's up with the quality. He was spraying a little shot on this run: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkPjj3UiqY0&feature
