Got hit (again)

Well, my '07 just got hit. Fortunatly, not as bad as the '00, but hit nonetheless.

I had stopped at a light that just turned red. I was behind two cars. Well, you know when somebody stops to far forward and they back up? That's what happened. The car in front of the car in front of me (confusing, I know) started backing up; so, the car in front of me threw it in reverse and did the same. I could not. There was already a car behind me. I layed on the horn and SMASH!! I get out, and so does the other driver.. FIRST THING HE SAYS: "Man, nice car." I say, "It was" I took his info, I'll go from there. I'm almost thinking it's not worth having a nice car anymore.

What was his reasoning for backing up. He wasn't in the wrong, dumbass in front of him should have just stayed in the crosswalk to think about how to better stop next time.

I would have noted both of their insurance information, as the 1st guy caused the accident.

What a smart mouth thing for the 2nd guy to say, I would have told him to hold his ****in' tongue.

He didn't have a reason really, just said the guy in front of him was backing up and he needed to. I must've layed on my horn for a solid 2 - 3 seconds. The guy must've known my car was stationary, or he was completly oblivious to the situation. Either way I have some nice scuffs and abrasions on my front bumper now.

Actually he is to blame regardless of what the other car was doing. There is no way to know if the other car would have hit him, because he moved.

Sorry about your car man, but atleast it is minor and can be fixed.

I recall reading somewhere for personal security details (PSD) in Iraq to always stop with enough distance between your car and the vehicle in front so you can pull away. The rule of thumb is to be far back enough to see their rear tires. If you cannot see their rear tires, you are too close.

Yeah.. there's this thing people take... at the DMV... it tells you that too. I think it's required to drive. Some kind of test.

metroplex, I went through the anti-terrorism threat course at Ft. Bragg quite a few years ago when I was assigned to a position Honduras for a couple of years...but you're right, you should always leave enough room between the you and car in front of you in the event you need to make a quick getaway...being back in the states you tend to forget that trick, I need to start doing that again...

Getting hit really sucks. Its bad enough when an idiot rear-ends you. It is even worse when someone puts it in R and backs into you...
It does make you wonder about having a new ride. People push shopping carts up next to your ride, throw their doors open, take a key to it, etc. I have to keep a package of chrome valve stem caps in my garage, because people walk by and take them off. I even have to unscrew my billet antenna and toss it in the floorboard...Pathetic

I always stop at least a car length away from any car in front of me at stops.

If some crazy ass decides to pull out a bat, and begins to wail on your car, you can clock it full to the right, or left depending on the situation and get out of there. Plus if some 84 year old dumbass that can't see over the wheel isn't stopping in time behind you, you can use that extra space as a buffer zone if they intend to stop, if they have already fallen asleep then you are ****ed.
