Hey guys,

So, I got my MGW shifter today!! Everything looks great, looks like a nice solid piece. Anyways, I was scanning through the instructions, and came across something that confused me. Step 5 talks about once you have the stock shifter out, there is a plastic cup for the pivot ball to sit in, or a plastic pivot that pops onto the bottom of the shifter itself. It says I would be able to tell once I have the stock shifter off, but to avoid confusion and frustration at that point (hopefully this weekend) I figured I'd see which one I have, and exactly what to do with it. So, I have a 2002 GT w/ Tremec 3650 tranny, please try to help clarify this for me, I really appreciate it!! Thanks guys.

The small plastic piece might stick to the ball, or it may stay in the socket. Just be sure you have the plastic piece in the socket when installing the new shifter.

You can't mess it up. :nice:

What they all said. Very easy. The hardest part for me was to break the stock shifter off. Break isn't the best word, but the sealer was on there pretty good. You'll see what the instructions are talking about once it comes off. Be sure you have rags in the car so you don't have the oil/fluid dripping all over the place. And you don't need to use the shift stops since you have the T3650 tranny.

While you have the old shifter off, Drain your tranny and fill it from the top where the shifter is.

That way you get a new shifter and a fresh fluid and it drives 100x better! Its a little stiff at first, but after break in its great.

The plastic cup stayed on the bottom of the stock shifter when I pulled mine out, so I had to pry it off to put on my MGW. I recommend a rag over it while popping it off because mine shot across the garage when it let go :rlaugh:

As everyone else said, it will be obvious what MGW is talking about once you get the stock shifter off.

Your thread does not show the black plastic cup in question, also his car is newer....
