Got my DCC and a different method of mounting the temp sensor.

Got my DCC controller and installed it over the weekend. Seems to be working great. My fan shroud covers the entire radiator and I was having difficulty finding a way to mount the temp sensor since its supposed to be outside of the shroud.

I contacted Baskin and he suggested this alternate method of mounting the sensor.

Another, very trick way to do it if you have a manual transmission but
have the automatic transmission cooler in the radiator, is to find a
brass pipe plug from a hardware store that will fit the trans cooler.
Buy two of them and drill one 3/4 of the way through with an 1/8" bit.
Heat the DCC sensor with a hair dryer until the glue melts on the
covering and slide it off. The sensor will then pull out of the housing
with very little tension. Glue the sensor in the drilled plug with the
standard 16B silicon sealer and screw it into the lower fitting of the
trans cooler. Fill the cooler from the top fitting, leaving just enough
room for expansion and install the top plug. The water will heat the
trans fluid, which will heat the sensor. The set up works exceptionally
well.

I went this route since I have an AOD but do not use the radiator trans cooler, in favor of a large auxillary cooler.

One issue I encountered was locating a brass pipe plug that was solid. All of the ones I found, became hollow after about the 1st 2 threads from the top, not enuf room to drill and get a good mounting of the sensor.

Here is the solution I found. I went to the parts store and bought a brass 1/4" radiator drain ****. I used my dremmel and cut the steel wings off of it then closed it, using red loc tite to keep it closed.

The center is hollow all the way to the bottom and is 1/8 inch. I filled it with black RTV and inserted the temp probe. Let it dry over night then put it in the lower port.

Works like a charm the sensor is right against the brass bottom and gets a good reading from the ATF being heated by the coolant. The car runs at a constant 180*, I dont have to worry about circulating air affecting the sensor or about it slipping out from between the fins.

The worst part was trying to fill the trans cooler with ATF. Slow and Messy!!

Just thought I would share. Hope it helps someone else.
