Sounds like you've already decided, your asking the question is just not netting you the response you wanted. Well I can only say that my car is a show queen for the most part...it was damaged and the results were attained for under 4000. If you want to spend 8000 for a car that will net you 6000-7000 on the open market, then by all means go right ahead. If it were me I'd buy the clean 2000-3000 car and spend the 3000 to make it right...keep your car and use the parts and part it out..you'll make out well.

Everyone keeps skipping the point that I'm not going to have him do the quarters, so the price drops to about or below $6000. Also, as I've said, I've been looking for another car for months, everything has been crap. Once I move all my hardware over to the other car, replace damaged interiors, bodywork and paint, it will probably cost me more in the end. I'd just love to know who is doing everyones bodywork here for bargain basement prices. I had the number he gave me in my head already before factoring the unncessary expense of those quarter windows.

DUUUDE, you can send your quarter windows out and get them re done for 300-400 bucks. My friend looked it up for his on his 85GT It doesnt make sense that they would be that much, 1200 bucks is half a decent fox body. A good paint job shouldn't be more than 5000 grand MAX. I'm sorry but this guy is bsing with everything he's got.

WHOA, hold on a sec. Let's backtrack, because this is a good thread. Maybe if I posted the pics of the bodywork that needs to be done, it would be more understandable what's going on here. SO, I'm NOT going to have this shop do the quarters, as I've said earlier. Yes, I knew it was too much from the get-go. That's one of the reasons why I started this thread. But when one factors in that for around $6000, maybe a bit less, the front end gets repaired, all the dings get removed, a nice dent in the side is fixed, a body kit installed (Cervini's, who else?), moldings restored (less the quarters!), replacing the air bag, and a paint job (I told him to do the more expensive job, I want the car to look like my friend's that he did). Oh, and I live on Long Island, where everything is more expensive. I just got off eBay, can't find ANYTHING within my neck of the woods. So, where can I get my mouldings for the quarters resto'd?

Black Sun. It's true what is being said in this thread. You have pretty much made up your mind on going with this guy and like said before you are just not getting the reponce you wanted.

Just to let you know, here at StangWerks our going rate for reconditioning all the window moldings, belt moldings, door handles, window frame and sanding down the 1/4 windows is about $500. So maybe talk this guy down to a price that is within the realm of earth becuase $1,200 a side is insane.

It's not that I'm not getting the response that I want, it's just that you KEEP MISSING THE POINT. I'M NOT GOING TO HAVE THE GUY DO THE QUARTERS, IT"S TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE AND I TOTALLY AGREE. OK, no more caps. I'm just looking at the bodywork and paint plus the kit, $6000 or less (probably less.

You still are not getting the point. No matter what the money issue is you keep defending the price tag. You are going to do what you want to do reguardless.

Anways, how can we give you any sane advice about this if you don't even have pictures of your car or the damage done to the vehicle?

My body work/paint is probably going to cost $1000 total... and should be pretty nice and custom, but I also know people and do a lot of work myself!

You wanted opinions and we gave them. We arent missing the point, we know exactly what your saying, but $6000 will buy you a nice clean, UNWRECKED car that you could swap your stuff into, and then have other good parts to sell and make some money back.

But everyone has said this and you dont want to hear it, so do what you want! :thumb:

Eh, fine. Find a dinged up stang, have that fixed. Then get it repainted. Check. Hope the interior is as good as mine. Oh, then have someone be kind enough to swap everything over from my car to the new one. I hope they do that for free, also, because with my knowledge (lack thereof) and limited time on my hands, there's no way I'm doing that myself. How much does everyone else's shop charge by the hour? Plus we get contradictions here. One guy says he got his bodywork and paint fdone for a grand, the other says that the $$$$ I was quoted would not get me a show quality finish. Yes, I have looked at other cars, and in the end, it costs me jsut as much to get the car where I want it. I've been driving the car 5 years with front end damage and always planned on fixing it up. Just out of curiosity, seriously, how much does everyone else's local shop charge for mechanical or bodywork? Every shop I've ever dealt with since I've been driving charges an arm and a leg around here. Anyone from LI can attest to that, unless it's a home garage special. May as well take it to Maaco at that rate.

Then do what you want, why ask for opinions if your going to piss and cry when we give them...

I guess if the opinion doesnt fit you, dont listen to it.

I personally told you what I would do, but I also know how to lift a wrench and swap out some interior pieces. If you rely on everyone else to make your car your car then sure its going to cost more. DO whatever you want with YOUR car and YOUR money, but when you ask for OUR opinion and WE give it you, quit pissing and moaning and accept it.

Ok. This is what I want to see: people that have banged up their stangs with before and after pics and how much the repairs went for. The only pissing and moaning from me was the fact that everyone was focused on the quarter window price, which I said repeatedly I'm not having done. Sorry, some of us work a lot for a living and are busy fixing up their homes instead of cars and don't have all the time in the world to turn wrenches in an engine compartment. If I had the time, I'd do it, but I don't. I already looked into it and had a mechanic on board to help if I gutted the car. Look at it this way, I'm not getting started on this for at least two months. If a qwuality car comes along for the right price, I'll look at it. But I'm not left with too many options. Seems as though fox bodies are in demand around here.

Yeah man, it's up to you what you want, it's your car, and if you love it make it right, but if your looking to save some cash, the way said above can help, it's up to you. If it were me, and i had 8grand to blow, or even 6 grand to blow on a car, and i had a bunch of modds done to mine, and all i needed was to make it look good, i think i'd go the way your going, but i don't have 8 or 6 grand to blow, like i said if it were ME, i'd just order the front clip, some fiberglass fenders, cool hood, cool headlights, pull the old crap off, have the shop fix the frame if it's been wrecked, toss the new stuff on, and get the paint, but that's me, i like to do as much of the work i can, and i like to save money, but i'm poor, we'll leave you and your 78 z28 loving self alone
