wow torque feels soo good on these trucks. wheew. but starting to feel slower as im getting used to it. i want to go faster! well i want to get an exhaust but dont know which muffler sounds good an which dont. i heard a flowmaster 40 series on a chevelle and it sounded sweet but i went to a muff shop for an estimate and he said to get spin tech cuz the flowmaster will be to quite. i want my exaust to be loud. i love the growling sound. sorry if i sound like a retard im just new to the domestic scene. also my check engine light come on the other day. should i just take it in to ford or? and it sounds like the motor is ticking kinda like what valve tick sounds like. sup with that? i want to get a nice system but as all you lightning owners know there is barely any room for subs/tubes behind the seats. does anybody make custom boxes for this truck? well thanks guys i have more questions but dont want to bore you guys even more than i have. thanks a lot for any help. and thanks to those who pushed me to get this truck

I seriously doubt that a 40 series non delta would be quiet. The drone would be pretty bad though. Am I wrong?

By the way that is one sweet truck. How many miles and what did you pay for it?

I have flowmaster 40's on my 99 L and they arnt too loud. They sound really mean when I get on it, but the drone isnt too bad. I like the sound of exhaust and driving around with both windows down is like music to my ears. Go here for some other help and ideas for things to do to your truck:

i've been apart of the lightning scene for quite sometime now and i have to tell you the truth, so here it goes.

1. Do not buy a flowmaster muffler for the lightning, you will lose HP & Torque because of the "chamber" design, the lightning is only good w/ a straight through design, such as Spintech, Bassani, Magnaflow. i know the loudest is magnaflow & spintech, but quality is bassani.

2. i know i just told you what exhaust to get but you mentioned you wanted more power, well exhaust on a lightning doesn't give you crap for power, the stock system is actually the best for it, the most HP increase i've ever heard is JDM's kit and Bassani make 5rwhp and 5rwtq or something like that, so basically all your getting in exhaust is sound for a lightning.

3. Stereo options, you actually have more room then you think, you could fit 2 10's in the back easily, MTX makes a custom box or you could make a custom box for it.

4. If you really want a power adder, get a chip for it, and if you want get a pully to increase the boost, but make sure you have a chip burned to that mod, and you'll really feel a difference.

hope you take my comments into consideration.

Have to agree with cobra97snake on the exhaust. A very good friend of mine has a 03 L and I have heard him mention the same, exhaust on an L does not give you any power. However he put the bassani kit on his and sounds very good.

First mods from what I have seen is pulley and filter. My buddy put a 4lb pulley and a filter on and gained good power. Installed a 6lb pulley and received minimal gains. Based off his truck you can run a 4lb pulley without a chip very safely. He has the dyno sheets to back it up.

His combo now consists of a kenne bell supercharger (16lb pulley) and cold air induction. Yesterday at the track in 90 degree heat he pulled a 12.82@107.x mph in the 1/4.

One thing you will notice about these trucks is that outside temperature play a major role in how these trucks perform. The hotter it is the worse they will run as far as 1/4 mile times go.

well the bassani exhaust is gonna run you close to $700, there not cheap, but it is all stainless steel, and sounds really good.

for the exhaust check out, www.motorcitymods.com he's gonna have the best price, give him a call tell him Phil sent you and he'll hook you up, his number is on the site, he's got really great service.

as for the pully, you can goto the F150online.com store, there cheap there.

I had an 02 L and I bought the Bassani cat-back and it was nice and all but not very loud. I heard the Flows on an L and it was nasty, I hated the sound. I ended up taking both Bassani mufflers off and selling them and wedling in straight pipe from the x-pipe to the Bassani tips and boy it was AWESOME!!!! I think to this day I had the loudest L in Maryland.

i was just reading your post and you noticed a tick fromt he engine?? where is the tick coming from... that tick could be the early warning signs of a plug about to blow out the head... (trust me very common on these trucks) i have done a few cyl heads at work because of this not fun well anyways if i were you i would take a good listen to that ticking...

And if you do change the pulley on the supercharger down the road to get more boost and you take it to Ford for warranty work, more than likely your warranty will be denied. Something to think about.

My buddy has a 99 L with full bassani. Headers all they way back and it is the meanest sound you could get. He's also running airaid intake a 6# pulley and a superchip. It'a a pretty fast truck. He's gone a best of 13.24 @104.
