To be honest with you, I haven't made up my mind yet. I think that is a good thing, becuase my options are much more open. I'm kind of leaning towards a vert right now. I'm looking at having a great looking and powerful weekend cruiser. I only drive my '00 on weekends or nice days right now and that would continue with this project.

Of the ones I've seen lately on here, I really like the look of your machine, BDT 1967's vert, and MDJay's sinister stang. Really, I would be happy with most of the body styles 1970 and earlier. There are definitely a few I don't like, but there are many more that I do like.

It's nice to be open minded going in, it's easier to find something to work. I never imagined that I'd be restoring a '68 coupe - it just sort of turned out that way. I was going to sell it and pickup a 'vert or fastback, but after I had put so much into the coupe my wife wouldn't let me sell it (yea for the wife!).

My dad just did a really nice '65 convertible that is probably along the lines of what you are looking to do:

Whoa! I removed the front wheel, and there can't be more than 5 threads holding each lug! I can't believe the tire store mounted them like that!

Looks like I'm gonna have to get new studs after all :notnice: :bang:

If I had a 67-68 coupe, I'd do it exactly as you're doing it, VERY nice job. Wheels are just a little too modern for me (see my avatar) but they could easily grow on me. I love the ducktail GT/CS style spoiler you have. '67 coupes are arguably the best for power/weight ratio, wider tires, etc. since you've got the wider platform there. If I only owned one other Mustang I would be torn between a GT/CS or clone or a '69 Mach 1 restomod.

Looks like the apple don't fall far from the tree - I love dad's convertible. That gives me new hope to soldier on with a white dash even though there are naysayers, and I think based on his photo I've chosen a saddle or light tan carpet to go with my white interior, I was kind of wishy-washy on it.

Funny you should mention the '69 Mach 1 - we nearly sold my wife's '67 vert to get a '69 Mach 1. I think in pure stock form, the '69 Mach 1 is the most beautiful Mustang ever made. Love the '70 too :nice:

I know how you feel about the wheels - I struggled with it for a long time. In the end I wanted something a little different than everyone else has. I was pleasantly surprised with the wheels when they came out of the box because they are more retro looking in person. I think it has to do with the dish of the wheel, but in any case I was happy to see that in person they looked alot more retro than the pictures.

I'll forward your remarks on to my Dad (stangnet ID Rsev216) - he'd enjoy them. He just took best restoration and best interior at a show a couple of weeks ago. Ironically enough, he didn't build the car to be a show car - just wanted something he'd enjoy :D

Go with your gut on your color choices. We discovered lots other Mustang owners didn't really "get" our color choices when we described what we wanted to do. We're both thrilled that we stuck to our guns.

Last bit of interesting information - my Dad bought what is now my '68 coupe in 1993 for .... (drumroll please).... $300! And it was a good solid driver with no rust (Arizona car).

I bought it from him in 1996 for $2,500 after he'd done alot of the mechanical restoration. Current estimates on value are between 30 and 35K.

We hear ya! As a hobby I do video editing with music and stuff. We're going to get a decent DV camera and put together a really nice video to some good music. I'm thinking of a few good burnouts and maybe some other scenic driving stuff around Arizona (route 66 maybe). Maybe even get some other Mustangs involved...

It's gonna be a while though since I have the front end torn apart for new wheel studs and cutting the springs :(

This video was simply due to my wife coming out with the camera while I was coming back from a short drive around the block with my 2 yr old son :D

Well folks, I know this thread is old, but I finally made my purchase!! I just bought a '70 vert today. It's an F-code engine...nothing special, but a V8 to start with none-the-less. It currently has a black top and interior, with a red exterior. Original car color was yellow. I'll probably change it to a black exterior. What I had in mind was a black exterior with silver Boss-like stripes and a two toned (black and silver) interior. I have big plans for this car. I'm not going to clone a Boss or any other car, because I'm not into cloning, but I'll take things from different styles of Mustangs to turn create a custom ride.

When it arrives (now sits a few states away), I'll post pictures. It was between this and a 67-68 coupe. Basically, I started looking at 'verts, but they were generally out of my price range. I also like the fastbacks, but same issue...out of my initial purchase price range. Then I came acros this car and was able to strike a great deal...at least in my opinion. Now I have a 'vert in good shape that was in my price range.

I guess it goes to show that if you're patient enough and look hard enough, the cars and deals are out there :D

I got a set of "bullets" on ebay to cover the wiper nubs:

It's easy to take them off and put on the wipers of you need to, but I don't ever plan on doing that.
