I just bought a 2002 mustang GT manual from a ford dealership and 2 days after I bought it the car started making a chirping noise. If i press in the clutch in the chirping noise stops, but other than that it is the most annoying thing I have ever heard. I took the car to another dealership different from where i bought the car to find out was wrong and they said they wouldn't touch it because they saw that it had transmission work done and this is what the history sheet says

remove and install transmission. Replace 1-2 shift fork, 1-2 SYNCRO, 1-2 Blocker ring

GEar asy-intermediate
syncronizer asy
ring trans syncronizer
fork gear shifter

can some one interpret my situation please

It's a TOB as previously mentioned, but it sounds like a dealership already tried to remedy it with a new tranny. I would take it to another dealership.

it sounds like it could be the throw-out bearing. http://www.carcarecouncil.org/Manual_Transmission/throw-out_bearing.shtml
but i'm not quite sure.

Probably your throw-out bearing. If the car is still under warranty, take it back. If not, go get a can of white lithium grease and hose down the TOB and it should quit.

if it is just the TOB why would they do all that work to the trans when all they needed was a bearing replacement. One thing I am also worried about is that if it is indeed a throughout bearing wouldn't that be considered part of the clutch which is not covered under waranty?

Looks like the work was required due to some serious malfuction, either from abuse or bad luck, considering what they replaced. They probably didn't replace the TOB because it wasn't covered under warranty. At least that is a possibility.

Hey, it's a Mustang. Live with it. Our Mustang GT's all have one problem or another. I would just keep driving it and leave it alone. You can always upgrade to a 2005 GT if your car gives you more trouble. Expect all Mustangs to have problems. It's the nature of the beast.

If it's the TOB you can adjust the stock quadrant setup to put more pressure on it to keep it quiet. Do a search for my name and you'll find various threads where I explain how. You could also replace the stock quadrant with an aftermarket one and use a firewall adjuster with it to put more tension on the TOB.

My TOB was making the infamous chirping sound as well. I just adjusted the stock quadrant and it's been noise and problem free ever since.

Sounds like it's definitely your throw out bearing. I've had mine replaced twice already, both times it was covered under warranty. Mine is making noise again, so I'm just leaving it until I replace the whole clutch assembly after I get my blower...t.o.b. seems to be a common problem with late model stangs.
