you can pick up an intercooled Kenne Bell kit for that much. you will have no problem beating stock LS1's with it.

Congrats on the decision. I agree that 5k is more than sufficient for a number of different options. My only advice is that you lay out a sane plan-of-attack and then stick with it. A lot of people get a hit off of that hi-horsepower pipe and then keep tossing money at the car until they break it.

I would go with the smaller of the KB kits if you want 'reliable' (since that term is relative when applied to forced induction) and streetable power in a well-engineered package. All of your current mods will work great with that setup.

an intercooler cools the air going into the engine. cooler air - safer/more power. 9psi with the intercooler is not too much. i believe people are making over 400rwhp with it. as long as you run hi octane gas and get a good tune, it will be safe relatively speaking. anytime you add alot of power, there is risk.

what's an oz1?

since you already have 3.73's, a centri might also be a good idea. i like the kb kits, but with $5k you can pick up a procharger or cobra killer kit for around $3200 complete, spend $1000 on forged rods and pistons (8.5 compression, more boost, safely) and use the $800 on install or other stuff. that way, you won't have to worry if your tune is safe or if the stock internals will hold up

the way i see it, if you're going to boost it, might as well take full advantage of what a s/c will give you

if you want to up the power later on (650hp+) the only thing you'll have to upgrade is the fuel system
