got my trans back and its my a funny clicking noise in the bell housing i put a 4000 dacco stall converterand had the whole thing rebuilt.i have a list of mods for well into the 500 hp. it feel like its slipping till it reaches its stall point @ 4000 .also they peiced a gas line im dripping gas also theres exhaust leaks wtf what should i do and has any one ever had a funny clicking noise from there tranny before

this is wut i found out when he dropped my engine he broke my shround and never fixed it there was an exhaust leak on it when installing my exhaust he left a fuel line up on top of it wich burt a hole in it the back tail pipe was rubbing on my rim and took a inch of rubber of and put a huge hole in the pipe so the whole time im driving down the road while this thing must of been sparking to open gas

sounds like the torque converter bolts may not be tight on the flywheel or the motor, also ( I REALLY HOPE ITS NOT THIS ) could be that he cracked your flywheel. I'v seen it happen all three ways.... thats the only thing I could think of that would cause that kind of clickin. Hope that helps some.

Is this the combo with boost and the thicker head gasket? If so, it's possible the noise could be detonation from lack of quench. Does the ticking vary with engine speed? Does it happen all the time, or just under load?

A 4000 rpm stall is supposed to slip until 4000 rpm - that's what makes it a 4000 rpm stall converter.

the engine is stock still ....and it seems that it will only happen when it is very hot i drove it to nite and it was fine may need a trans cooler makes no sense because when it makes the noise when it is in park..i can tell its in the bell housing got right under there and can here it

1hot5.0 is right - the looser the stall, the more of a beating the tranny fluid takes; you definitely need a trans cooler with that - especially during the summer. And I wouldn't use the one in the radiator - it's capacity limited, designed for the stock tranny which doesn't heat the fluid up as much, and it makes the radiator work that much harder. Mount your aftermarket cooler down low so that the hot air coming off it doesn't re-enter the airstream passing over the radiator.

But, sounds to me like you need to hustle the car over to the shop that did the tranny rebuild and go for a test drive --- if they worked on it, they ought to be willing to help you figure out what the noise is. I assume it wasn't there before they worked on it.

michael no it wasnt and they did hear it they said they would put it up next week i have no prob with that but there hacks over there.you see that they couldnt even put a exhuast on right if i dont have to bring it to them i would like not to if i could do it my self. ill be getting a trans coller today

i dont see y people say a higher stall is better.y is it better to have your tranny slip all the way to 4000 feels like im killing the power band im really considring going back to stock stall or lower but my torque is suppose to be great one of the best ..once again mr. yount thanks for all the help your great

4000 on a stock motor, that was a waste of money. Seeing that the power band ends at what 4800. Wow dude you get 800 rpm's of use out of that. If the shop you took it too are hacks, why did you take it there. Your going to trust that they rebuilt that tranny properly, I bet you got took.

The other guys are right - the whole intent of a looser stall is primarily for engines that are built in a way that they make their power higher in the rpm band, and are weak in the lower rpm band. The higher speed stall lets the engine get up to the meaty part of it's band sooner which improves acceleration. However, because of all the slippage - they make one (in my opinion) not much fun to drive on the street and they really kill efficiency. You're gonna be adding boost as I recall - you'll be making decent power by the 2500-3000 rpm range - I wouldn't have gone any steeper than a 3000 stall and even then, only if I were racing it regularly. Ultimately I think you're gonna want to get rid of that stall. You'll have hard time with traction I suspect as the motor flashes up to that rpm - at which point you'll be making big power/torque with boost - and in first gear it's gonna want to roast the tires from a standing stop.

dacco converters are a good stock replacement but they are far from the best converters on the market.they are good for the price.who recommended a 4k stall anyway?my bigblock nova has only a 3500 stall and runs low into the 7s.i don't really believe the car you have could ever take advantage of a stall like this and if it did it would feel awful.just put your stock converter back until you can take advantage of a bigger stall.

i realize you need power to make them worth there while.well the noise went away dont no y but it did im doing my big build starting tomorrow.let you know in a couple weeks how it went and ill post dyno numbers for you michael (should be in the 500/550s) you really told me so much your the mind that really built this engine in the mean time ill look for a better stall maybe

retrapp the converter was used from a father freind who said he paid over a g for it got it for a hundred it was collecting dust and works great
