No sure why your upsettedness. If you have children, you will have a different set of goggles on I think. More on the safety side. That's the view I am coming from. I would rather someone know than now know.
I have a wife, children, and grand chlidren which I am kinda fond of.
The point here is it just don't get that hot under there.
As for the fumes it may give off if burned .................
I would think the 6 to 10 inch section of pipe used is not enough to make trouble to the degree of a life threatning condition.
Where the toxic fumes thing most likely comes from is what I have always heard from being in the telcom business for all my life. Phone & Data Cable with a pvc jacket can give off toxic fumes if burned. In a lot of skyscrapers, you have a ceiling that makes the common area all that cable is in a part of the path that AC & Heat draws the air peeps breath. The concern is if you had a fire. The solution was to place the pvc jacketed cable in metal conduits or use a cable with a Teflon jacket.
For a little cai to cause a prob like above, you'd most likely have to stick your head on top of the burning pipe and purposely breath in the fumes.
My rant was about how you can see things being presented as fact and the same thing gets passed around over and over on the internet.
I think this is a good example of that making a mountain out of a mole hill thing and I was only using your post as an way to show what I was talking about.
If you think I was directing anything negative in your way or at you ........
that was not at all what I was trying to do.
If you think the pipe might melt or cause harm to you or any of your passengers, then I certainly do see your concerns for being cautious.
